I’m convinced there are elements within Iran that could guide the country towards a modern civil society but they may never see the opportunity. I think a confrontation is coming soon with the Islamist.
WHY? Our so called “allies” have been dancing with our enemies for a long time. Let them freeze and go without gasoline and diesel for their cars, so they will know the lesson of relying on SA and Russia for their energy.
Then why are we getting ready to fight for it? Let Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states and China and India fight for it.
[Thank you for making my entire point. If we are not willing to commit to War we should stop talking about it. Riling folks up to commit to something called war but isnt ends up a bloody, inconsequential mess. We already have one hole in the ground with 58,000 names on it.]
You’ve confused war with nation-building. We can bounce the rubble at a much lower cost.
This incident -- as its being reported -- seems like a perfect opportunity for them to do that. If the ME won't deal with Iran now, then why the heck should we? There is nothing in it for us.
Trump has made us energy independent
So if we are going to pursue a glorified game for tag I supppose the proper reaction would be cripple Irans oil production. Which we dont need to do because our sanctions IIRC have already done that.
The 9/11 Saudis despite their wealth and enormous cache of modern , sophisticated military weaponry cannot defend themselves or even defeat starving Yemini rebels. Time to ditch these Arab terrorists. Whoever eventually controls the oil will need to sell it. Don’t want a useless war with Iran but it should be noted that the mullahs and their goons have yet to suffer for the 1979 hostage taking and humiliation of America. A great power does not let insults go unpunished. Keep up the sanctions on Iran until they provoke Israel, see their nuclear infrastructure and personnel destroyed and the medieval regime collapse.
The Permian Basin made the USA energy independent.
Go Texas!
This whole thing brought back to my mind the scene of John Wick in the desert finally talking to the one truly in charge.
He is wrong. We are still not energy independent on oil and never will be. The Permian Basin, although the granddaddy of all horizontal plays, would take years of drilling to take us to oil nirvana. The biggest problem is having enough water to frac with.
“Its a world market, Mr. President.”
To hell with being the world’s unpaid policeman. It is a global market but it isn’t an American problem. If the price of oil that we produce girls up that money will stay in the US economy.
Any oil company executive wold risk being fired if he/she ignored the world price for oil products. It’s fact of life.

I am in PA sitting on top of the Marcellus and Utica shale deposits. We have many rivers and some Great Lakes that provide much more water than will ever be needed.
Yes, Natural Gas is different from oil but the technology to make internal combustion engines run on either or both oil & compressed gas has been around for a loooong time. Not prohibitively expensive, either.
Keep increasing production and refining capacity.
Then the in very few more years, step away from the Middle East. If China and the Yurps want oil and gas, theyll just have to start dealing with that mess. It wont be our problem any more.
Of course, Jefferson messed things up with his Embargo. And that is a lesson learned.
We're back to "in the beginning".
We want Free and FAIR Trade as expressed by President Trump. We're getting there....step by step.
Tell the Dems to get off their butts and approve USMCA.
Agreed, they have plenty of our military equipment to handle the counter attack.
I didn’t say one thing about executives and to further illustrate what I meant is if the price of like goes up in America due to worldwide demand the majority of our consumed oil is domestically produced and so the dollars would stay in America.
Well, start building your water pipeline. Either way, it would take years to drill enough wells to offset our imports. Natural gas is a whole other story. It will be abundant for another century, if not longer.
We are not energy independent when it comes to oil. Natural gas, yes. Oil, no. Gasoline comes from oil.
