Iran Fired Cruise Missiles In Attack On Saudi Oil facility: Senior US Official
ABC News ^ | 09/15/19

Posted on 09/16/2019 4:08:00 AM PDT by Enlightened1

Iran launched nearly a dozen cruise missiles and over 20 drones from its territory in the attack on a key Saudi oil facility Saturday, a senior Trump administration official told ABC News Sunday.

It is an extraordinary charge to make, that Iran used missiles and drones to attack its neighbor and rival Saudi Arabia, as the region teeters on the edge of high tensions.

President Donald Trump warned the U.S. was "locked and loaded" to respond to the attack on Sunday, waiting for verification of who was responsible and for word from Saudi Arabia on how to proceed.

“There must be wholesale Iranian destruction”

Absent total commitment by Western and gulf forces to the complete destruction of Iran, we’d be crazy to do anything.

Iran has the ability, absent STRONG US commitment, to shut down the entire Gulf’s oil production, and everyone knows it.

And that’s the bet Iran is placing on the table.

If the attack can be directly linked to Iran, making the case for a strike is not that difficult.

And you've ably outlined many of the reasons going to make that case that I endorse. But there are countervailing considerations:

Who would act with us? Would we have all of Europe arrayed against us? Would this benefit or harm us with respect to our vital trade war with China which is only superficially a trade war? Will this help reelect the President or cause his defeat? If defeated, what will transpire in the Persian Gulf then? What will occur with respect to defending America against the multifaceted threat presented by China?

The age-old question, how do you define victory? What price in blood must we pay? What price in cash and what price to our reputation?

One can name on the fingers of one thumb the number of wars that have gone as planned. And this raises the question, is a surgical airstrike enough? Would we need repeated airstrikes? Would we need boots on the ground? Do we want regime change? How do you accomplish that, with or without troops? What role will Russia play? What role will China play? What will the Arab street do, will it double down on terrorism?

What vital national interest of the United States is at stake? What other national interests would we be we jeopardizing?

We are not ready to make these judgments one way or the other. First we must establish the facts on the ground and, having established them, we must be sure that they are perceived to be true by the whole nation and by our allies. Only then can we begin to weigh the pros and cons of military action.

The US has an essential, strategic interest in ensuring the free flow to market of Gulf oil. Even if we do not use much of it.

The Roman Empire had an essential, strategic interest in sending its troops everywhere in the known civilized world--until the empire fell.

"Essential, strategic interest" is the language of people who want to destroy the country by dragging us into endless no-win foreign wars while they win big defense contracts.

Ok, the agressors will be the combined air forces of Saudi Arabia and the UAE along with Israel. The US Navy will defend the Gulf and the straights and take care of offending air craft crossing the Gulf from Iran.

Since I don’t know about the capabilities of Kuwait and Bahrain and Oman, I can’t guess theri involvement, but tey will lend a hand as they are able.

Should it become necessary, there might be B2 and B52 bomber support as well. I don’t know the plans.

That is, we will be in a defensive position ing the Gulf and the straights as we have been for I guess decades.

duckduckgo borrows from Goolag.

You are now hoping to sustain a pissing contest you created, a contest with nothing significant to contribute.

But anyone that binds quality research with substantive experience can see your contribution is shallow and your results are incomplete.

You don’t cut the mustard. Any remark you create from henceforth in this thread is to assuage your ego, nothing more.

The above is intended to teach and shape you as a mentor and drill sergeant. Your expected rejection will only add to your deficiency. Perhaps one day with a prayer you will develop gratitude.

Where would they get the cruise missiles?

Their economy is in freefall, their oil is restricted, their people are in turmoil. And somehow a dozen cruise missiles appear out of nowhere to make a strike.

...

I believe Iran has had cruise missiles for many years.

It’s Yemen that doesn’t have cruise missiles. Where did they get them?

This is an act of war if true. Boy, the Saudis need the Israelis now more than ever. Reality stranger than fiction in this case.

I agree, and The U.S> doesn't need to get involved but others in the region including Saudi Arabia can effectively counterstrike.

Yemen had the drones, not the cruise missiles per reports.

The drones were supplied from outside as part of a global arms contraband network.

The illicit arms trade is a reality and is sophisticated. It’s been operating for decades.

Now that you’ve been called on the carpet and had your cyber ears boxed, maybe next time you will qualify your research to make it more worthy of ingestion.

BTW you are posting to someone that introduced the psychological concept of ‘projection’ to FR years and years ago.

In sum, you need to change your psyche model from “monkey see, monkey say, monkey snarl” to “monkey see, monkey think, monkey help”.

Good luck.

You act as if the Iranians are invincible and the West has no way to deter them. I disagree. Given the proper time to deploy the needed assets and directed by us (backed by the Eurowankers who certainly have an interest) It is my belief the Straight can be kept open or perhaps have only a minimal amount of traffic impediment and that for a short period of time.

A warning followed by decisive and powerful response should Iran attack the Saudi fields as you suggest would act as a heads up and I believe a future deterrent.

Somehow the Mullahs have gotten the idea Trump won’t act out of fear it will hurt him politically. They need to be disavowed from that sort of thinking.

If I understand correctly, we have plans in advance for most anything.

But once set loose, “the enemy has a say”.
