Refining transforms the crude into various refined products

The facilities at Abquiq separate out the gas. Prior to the construction of Abquiq, the gas was all flared.

Read an article a week or so ago that came up after the last "glitch" or whatever the heck you want to call it; I think it was one of those refinery fires. It said that the US only gets about 5% to 8% of its oil from the Gulf states now. I assumed we get the majority of our oil now from the Gulf of Mexico, Alaska and the North Dakota, Canada, what is it called, shell, shade, whatever it is up in ND, SD, Canada. But, that is the number I read. So, if we are really getting that little percentage of oil from the Persian gulf, then why do our oil prices go up so much every time a glitch hits here. But, that is what I read. That is what I was trying to post.
