At some point, we had to make good with the Japanese and the Germans... or if you go back far enough in history, the British. The Germans did some especially horrible things. The Japanese, too. Or the Cold War and the USSR. But we did eventually end those wars.

Muslims are indeed a different beast and maybe they can't be dealt with. Heres hoping that we can eventually make peace. Who knows...

This is a totally different situation. Our reconciliation with Germany and Japan took place after we had defeated both of them, winning peace through strength. We helped to rebuild both nations, but kept an occupying army in both nations “just in case”. The peace treaties required that both nations must give up their armies and be totally disarmed. With our Muslim enemies, the war is ongoing, both at home (numerous terrorist incidents with great loss of life) and abroad, in Afghanistan and Iraq, where the loss of American lives is ongoing.

You cannot make peace with an enemy who wants war, and has the means to engage in war.
