If he can walk across the DMZ into North Korea, he's willing to meet with anyone ... and I'm sure he sees a very strong political benefit to having tensions eased even slightly in the Middle East before the 2020 election.
I think that Trump knows that the Iranians are going to collapse under the weight of their own dictatorship pretty soon. The young woman setting fire to herself yesterday because she was kicked out of watching a soccer game because she was a woman… Well, it sounds trivial and definitely like an overreaction, but it indicates how unhappy Iranians are with the Islamic regime’s repression and near suppression of their daily lives.
And, I think that's a good thing. But, I didn't think it was a good thing when Obama floated similar intentions, because I felt he was eager to give away the store for a short-term electoral boost. Or because it helped Islam.
If Trump can meet and negotiate with people like Pelosi and Schumer he can do face-to-face with anyone.
Traditional politics and diplomacy require that our adversaries “ earn” a meeting by meeting our conditions. Given our track record in settling conflicts since Korea, this hasn’t worked so well. And now that these people like NK and Iran are nuke armed or close, the danger of isolating them and escalating and depending on bureaucrats to convey messages....is ridiculous to a negotiator like Trump.
