After the deadly Feb. 14, 2018, mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., national media focused largely on a handful of student activists, leaving it to victims parents to unravel why the slaughter happened. Andrew Pollack, whose daughter, Meadow, was one of the 17 killed, conducted his own investigation to uncover the roots of what he calls the most avoidable mass murder in American history. He and Max Eden are co-authors of Why Meadow Died: The People and Policies that Created the Parkland Shooter and Endanger Americas Students. This adapted excerpt, based on never-before-released educational records of the shooter, Nikolas Cruz, shows the Broward County school district knew full well about his obsession with guns and murder and then let him practice shooting at school.
When staff at Westglades Middle School heard that Nikolas Cruz had committed the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, some couldnt believe it. The fact that he was a mass murderer wasnt what surprised them, but rather the fact that he had attended that school.
How is that possible? one Westglades educator recalled thinking. We did our jobs. It took forever, but we got him [to the specialized school] where he needed to go. We couldnt believe they ever let him into [Douglas].
Westglades students and staff had never seen anyone like Nikolas Cruz. One student, Paige, recalled the time that hide behind corners and doors,

*** DON’T BLAME THE GUNS ***
I read the NY Post article which includes a letter from the woman who was Cruz’s “counselor”. She can’t spell, uses a lot of wrong words, and punctuation is all messed up. These are the kinds of geniuses working in the public indoctrination centers. God help us!
Yes, liberals designed and are in control of the entire system this kid was in. There were no other factors at play there.

The school doesn’t get paid for empty chairs.
She was play acting professional.
Its nauseating.
This should be required reading for every administrator, teacher, and high school student. It’s unbelievable he was not in a mental institution, let alone in a public high school!
The mom knew and she did nothing. The school knew and they refused to admit there was a major problem.
Hopefully students in the future will recognize this behavior and refuse to attend school until the student is removed.
It greatly depends on the laws surrounding forced commitment in the state. I’m not sure what they’re like in Florida, but here in Illinois, it’s virtually impossible to commit someone 16 or older unless they’ve already hurt themselves or someone else.
Mom may have also felt guilty about the idea of hospitalizing her son. Honestly, I would have confiscated all forms of entertainment containing violence, including the internet. Need to do schoolwork? You go to the library where they have filters for that stuff.
Horrifying. The whole thing.
I am definitely going to get this book.
The left wants ‘gun control’ so bad, they’re willing to sacrifice several thousand people a year - to the mentally deranged, illegals, drug dealers, gangs and other criminals.
They’re going to be disappointed when we refuse to give up any of our rights.
The school eventually expelled him, and he was 19 when he shot up the school. He wasn’t a student there at the time.
However, the school should’ve had more security measures in place.
Of course, hindsight is always 20/20. But Parkland activists were quick to point their fingers at the NRA, etc., when really school policies were at fault.
This kid should have been in a psych ward, not “mainstreamed “ and shoved through the school system. His parents may have been overwhelmed, exhausted and even afraid of him, and relieved to send him to school to get a break. Video games probably occupied him and gave them a break as well. Anything to stop the chaos at home.
Intervention was needed all along and never happened or was minimal. It was a slow motion train wreck. A completely unnecessary tragedy. The “system” failed in every way imaginable. What a damned shame.
I met Mr. Pollack at thw snipes protest . be is a frigging pit bull. Thank God he is on our side.
I am having trouble balancing this with the kid that was suspended from school for target shooting with his mon.
Any thoughts?
They probably would have gotten more if hed gone to the special school.
Andrew Pollack....one of few men in Broward County.
There is truth to the adage: “Those who can’t ..... teach.”
“I am having trouble balancing this with the kid that was suspended from school for target shooting with his mom. Any thoughts?”
My thinking is you need to read the various target shooting articles again, as many times as necessary, in order to fully understand the differences in context between the two. The target-shooting kid was a good student with no issues before some snowflake saw something and said something. Cruz, however, had been an out-of-control hellion and general sociopath for multiple years with significant documentation to support the problem.
It’s the “Promise” policies which students had to contend with and violations never reported that have been given a pass along with the war on the NRA http://www.theusmat.com/index.htm
