My late father in law was a village trustee in Northern Illinois. He enjoyed having what little power that gave him over ordinary citizens. One of his pastimes was to look for unlicensed business. Someone receiving or sending too many packages might get a visit. I get the impression that homeowners’ associations attract the same kind of ‘leadership’.
Take the mayor to court.

Oh, for Petes sake! The ordinance they are invoking is an anti-nuisance ordinance requiring the removal garage sale signs after the garage sales are finished, it cannot be used to remove permanently installed memorial plaques on private property. These are pretty standard nuisance sign ordinances most communities pass. It is patently obvious the ordinance is tied to a commercial activity, not to an ongoing personal, political, or memorial purpose, all of which are Free Speech protected and are not subject to this commerce ordinance.
CAIR?

Handy - that way, when crosses and other “offensive” stuff is torn down from public property, they can ensure it doesn’t end up on private property under they “purview”.
Probably had some muzzies complain and opted to kneel before them with the napes of their necks bared for the sword as a sign of obeisance...
As a resident of this "fine state" you couldn't possibly be more correct.
Carry on!
I am sorry for your loss. I take it that your late father was a democrat?
Father-in-law, and yes he was a democrat, likely through family tradition.
