It takes 20 to 50 years before smoking cigarettes will kill you. It takes a couple of months before you die from vaping.
Flavored vapes were just banned in Michigan.
Four or five out of the number of people who vape (I am not one of them) does seem odd. There’s more to these cases.
The THC cartridges are readily available, even legal in much of the country. Another way to look at this would be what percentage are occurring in marijuana legal states.
Somebody is losing tax money
a lot of these people that get sick are using weed......
About 10 million people vape....4 or 5 is not a huge number.
Bingo.
But let me guess, the politicians have a "solution" and I'm sure it involves new taxes.
Why hasn't ALCOHOL been banned? /s
Guns have been around a long time and the pros and cons are well known.
20 years ago someone figured out how to heat a liquid containing the highly addictive drug nicotine so people could inhale it without combustion byproducts. That’s all this is, a drug delivery device to no one bothered to research before rushing it to market.
What could have gone wrong?
“I guess the black market dealers figured out how to make there own THC vapes...just not how to do it well.”
Only use medical, state or cartridges that come from reputable vendors. If you are buying off the street, especially in states where it’s still illegal you will not know what you get.
It’s the marijuana cartridges that are responsible for the majority of the illnesses. Though some cases are reported from e-cig use alone, most of the illnesses are reported from people who vape marijuana, or vape both mj and nicotine.
With the THC products, who knows what they cut them with - probably all kinds of other other oils, with vitamin E oil, propylene glycol, glycerin, etc. I would guess that the major nicotine vape brands (e.g. phillip morris) have very strict quality control but still I have no clue what’s in them. And while some states have regulated the THC cartridge makers, I would guess that the market for them includes a large number of black marketeers with very poor quality control. I know you can buy them in NYC on the streets and in small shops and it’s not legal there. In theory anyone could extract THC oil from the plants using a cold press or a chemical extraction - but they would need to dilute/mix them with who knows what else.
Not to mention, it’s vapor - e.g. water. So is anyone surprised if symptoms of pneumonia appear after prolonged use?
3 people are dead. 450 cases of mysterious lung illness.
Hygiene may play a part. People stick these vape pens in their pockets, leave them on tables... how many people actually clean them? They probably collect any number of germs and bacteria over time. The water vapor is a perfect environment to carry bacteria into the lungs eg pneumonia. As would of course contaminated cartridges.
I never smoked but though the e-cigarette was a great invention since it eliminated breathing in combustion products.
I never thought about vaporized or atomized oils being sucked into the lungs where they condense and accumulate.
It sounds like a serious drawback of the e-cigs.
The big white puff of steam users blow out is pretty disgusting.
“”May I suggest, that kids should only smoke corn silk, and hide behind the barn when they engage in the activity.””
My goodness - I remember doing that...You’re showing your age but then so am I. BTW, your screen name is “nearly” like my mother’s maiden name but with a “g”.....
I suspect you are right-people are enjoying vaping too much-just like they enjoy beer, wine and liquor, smoking cigarettes/pipes/cigars, grilling and eating a nice, rare steak, etc-we certainly can’t have people having too good a time doing as they please, can we?
Same thing with the marijuana cartridges. I stopped using them because they would get plugged up and I would draw hard to get a hit and I could feel dirt particles? and cat hair rush into my lungs. Nasty. I see these kids take HUGE tokes off their E cigarettes. Is it to impress others? They were told it is completely “harmless”. I saw plumes of steam following kids on the campus. It was completly acceptable, but when I lit a cigarette in a designated area, I was scowled at.... a little bit of hypocrisy?
That statement is wrong on so many levels -- not just wrong but nonsensical. -- it left my head spinning like I suppose a good hit of THC off a vape would.
Hint: "vapor" does not refer in this usage to a state of H2O.
It is not wrong on any level but enjoy the buzz.
