Walgreens, Wegmans, CVS ask customers not to open carry firearms in stores

After Walmart and Kroger earlier this week urged customers not to openly carry firearms in their stores, drug store giants Walgreens and CVS, along with the Wegmans Food Markets announced Thursday that they were joining in making the same request, continuing a movement among major stores concerning gun violence.

"We are joining other retailers in asking our customers to no longer openly carry firearms into our stores other than authorized law enforcement officials," Walgreens stated.

"We join a growing chorus of businesses in requesting that our customers, other than authorized law enforcement personnel, do not bring firearms into our stores," CVS added.

"The sight of someone with a gun can be alarming, and we don’t want anyone to feel that way at Wegmans," the food store said in a statement, saying they 'prefer that customers not openly carry firearms.'

I conceal carry. Open carry tells bad guys who to shoot first

Completely agreed. I don’t understand what the big deal is. Not only do you have the right to conceal carry, but this s just a request, not a lawfully binding demand..

Exactly. CCWs are not impacted by these decisions. I always had second thoughts seeing some of the people that open carry. Some look sincere, some look like they are trying to prove something.

One really strange one was at Walgreens. A guy with a glock on his hip was arguing with the pharmacist about needing his "pain pills". The guy arguing put his hand on the butt of his weapon twice. It looked like habit or reflex. Never the less, it just had potential to go sideways.

“The stores probably got tired of cleanup of urine on the floors where the fainthearts lost bladder control after seeing a “gasp” gun!”

So here’s the question:
I see sombody walking around the store with a gun strapped to their hip......

Should I just assume that the gun bearer is a good guy simply because it is exposed?

You seem to argue that anyone open carry is a good guy.
That’s not a good argument.

I do believe open carry if it were more common is actually a deterrent to violent crime. Criminals avoid hardened targets like the plague. CCW is not much of a deterrent because the criminals do not believe the chances are high that someone nearby is armed. Ironically criminals unlike liberal nitwits actually believe their eyes. The last thing they want is a guaranteed gun fight with experienced shooters.

Interesting how this is worded.

These stores “urged” or “requested” patrons to not “open carry” weapons in the store. They did not expressly forbid.

So then concealed carry is ok and I wonder what the store would or could do if folks walked in carrying openly? Is the store not a public venue and therefore bound by the laws of that area?

Note that several victims and relatives of deceased are suing Walmart in El Paso for banning guns but not having armed guards on duty to protect them ... go for it!

Perps don’t scan the entirety of the store to make their move. A CCW is a better choice.

“silly argument.
not relevant here.

it is a good argument though. An important one.
Just not related to this one.”

We disagree.

“silly argument” but “a good argument though”?

Some might find that contradictory, but I could see where it’s not:)

This demand by the left to businesses that they must virtue signal by disciminating against lovers of liberty/conservatives is not much different than the Nazi imposition of the ‘Aryan Paragraph’ on businesses and institutions in order to isolate Jews and ‘non-Aryans’ from society in 1933 and on. They used it to infiltrate and take over the churches as well. It was what drove Bonhoeffer and others to resistance when the Nazis demanded the removal of Lutheran priests and church workers of Jewish extraction from the church.

This social stigma is what these new ‘left’ fascists are trying to create in order to set up the US for a social ‘cleansing.’

“It’s their store.
Shop by their rules or move one.”

It may be their store but the store owners are outsiders who don’t live in the community (mostly) and it’s the customers community. If they don’t want to do business by the community rules they can move on and open a store elsewhere.

_________

Nope, not good enough reason.
Actually, what you suggest is a very fascist reason.

I truly think you should re-read your post.
“Community rules”?

Wow!

As a small female I prefer to conceal even though it’s legal to open carry in my state and a lot do. A man could easily come up behind me and take it.

How many people in a Walgreens have ever even seen a person open carry? You can probably count the national number on the fingers of one hand. They are lying when they say they are requesting it because it makes customers uncomfortable. They are requesting it because they are afraid of leftists protests and the discomfort the leftists will cause to their customers.

If you parse my words, your idea becomes relevant in this topic. Perhaps I’ve misunderstood this topic....open carry.

Perhaps CVS should focus more on wait times to talk to an actual Pharmacist, takes over an hour on the phone to actually get one, and having to hear that annoying music in the background you want to pull your hair out
