Most people do not realize how large in size and unpopulated Maine is. 90% of the population lives in Portland or within 10 miles of the ocean.
JD Irving owns most of the rest of the state and New Brunswick too.

The economy 10 miles off the coast is forestry related.
Tourism, fishing(lobster)and lumber/paper are the main forces in the economy. With the exception of Sunday River and Sugarloaf the tourism is also very seasonal.

Like most other states in the union, the cities are dominated by the liberal loonies. The rural areas are salt of the earth.

“Most people do not realize how large in size and unpopulated Maine is.”

I used to pull potatoes up to northern Maine. So far north the only radio station was one out of New Brunswick.
The first trip I was amazed at how few people there were in the interior of the state. At night I might see one car, daytime a few more.
If only it didn’t get so danged cold in the winter.
