A projectile was fired from Lebanese territory into northern Israel, landing in the town of Avivim, near the Israel-Lebanese border, the IDF reported Sunday afternoon.

According to the preliminary IDF report, the projectile was an anti-tank missile, and was fired at an army vehicle near the border.

There are currently no reports of injuries.

The missile was fired days after the Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah vowed to attack Israel following an alleged Israeli attack on a facility in Beirut.

A report by Kuwait's Al Rai claimed that Hezbollah planned to strike Israeli targets within 72 hours, beginning last Friday.

The IDF has ordered that all towns four kilometers or less from the Lebanese border be placed on alert...

An incredibly inferior attack on a much, much superior country only ends up in a world of hurt.

I never understand it.

An airstrike on the nearist UN bunker in Lebanon would most likely take out the perp. I remember the Hizbullah flag flying beside the UN flag on UN bunkers during the last intifada with Lebanon.

They’re proxies for Iran. This is how they get money and toys.

A safe bet would be that Israel WILL retaliate.
Another safe bet is that the U.N. will criticize Israel.

“An incredibly inferior attack on a much, much superior country only ends up in a world of hurt...I never understand it.”

It’s not hard. If they do nothing, no one pressures Israel to commit suicide - nothing changed.

If they attack, get some of their ‘civilians’ killed, get great pictures of such, then Israel is blamed and pressed to commit suicide (i.e., the ‘peace process’ - whatever the hell that means). They’ve come very, very, close to making that approach work.

Israel is burning off the forests in Shebaa farms area to prevent Hezbollah troop stealth crossings.

Hezbollah claims their anti-tank fire hit Israeli vehicles and are casualties

Priority on the hit list is the large store of thousands of precision guided missiles - kits supplied by Iran. Taking them out will leave Lebanon in shambles.

You are right, the middle east pot is about to boil over again. I don’t know if this rocket attack is going to trigger it, but a rocket attack like this, that causes Israeli casualty is going to trigger a huge Israeli response and another war.

True.

I am glad to say I don’t recall the last time their rockets actually killed anyone.

I KNOW they have, but thank God it is VERY infrequent and I hope Israel respond with brutal force.

I’m not so sure there will be a local retaliation, israel is very reserved in response to one man Jihadi to prevent some random Islamic puppet from sparking a regional conflict. With Islam being a suicidal death cult, a random nutball goes off frequently.

They may not make news here, but rocket attacks on Israel are frequent. Two people injured by rockets on Sderot two weeks ago.

If we don’t, they’ll just keep doing it until we do. Might as well get the nuisance done, and take down a lot of Iranian “advisers” and “contractors”. Hizbollah can’t do much right other than speak Arabic fluently. It’s the Iranians who know how to fire effectively.

It more primal than that. If you have ever visited Israel or the Middle East, you know that Arabs think of Israelis as animals to be shot, not as humans. Because of this, Israelis think, justifiably, similarly of their enemies. The impact on media coverage and pressure campaigns are secondary.

It takes a book-length analysis to answer that question. I belive it was Van Creveld who used the analogy of the sword rusting in salt water to describe Israel’s predicament in Lebanon in the late ‘80s. A high-tech military floundering against a far weaker non-state militia army fighting in rough terrain.

You are right, there have been hundreds of rockets launched at Israel so far in 2019. But it is when one finally hits a school or hospital and causes mass casualties that will trigger a war. Israel is fully justified to go to war already based on the attacks already. Israel has been shockingly restrained in their response so far.

... and if the IDF refrains from striking back, so Lebanese militia unit will exercise a grievance against another and the IDF will be publically blamed. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Plus you get blamed either way.

“The IDF has ordered that all towns four kilometers or less from the Lebanese border be placed on alert...”

Screw that! Many anti-tank/anti-vehicle/antipersonnel weapons have a published range out 5 kilometers (about 3.1 miles).

Bulldoze everything 5 miles on the other side of the Lebanese and Gaza border for a free-fire zone.

And enforce it.
