Former Canadian Prime Minister Kim Campbell said Thursday that she wished for Hurricane Dorian to make a "direct hit" on President Trump's Mar-a-Lago club in Florida.
The strengthening storm churned over the warm, open waters of the Atlantic on Thursday, upgrading to Category 2 strength late in the day, with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph, the National Hurricane Center reported.
Forecasts showed Dorian tracking toward Florida's east coast — prompting Trump to warn Dorian "will be BIG!"
Forecasters believe the storm will strengthen into a Category 3 hurricane by Friday, and stay well east of the southern and central Bahamas before making a turn toward Florida by Sunday afternoon.
At that time, the latest NHC forecast is for the storm to make landfall Monday as a Category 4 storm.
However, Campbell saw a silver lining in the potential damage that could be caused by the massive storm.
"I'm rooting for a direct hit on Mar a Lago!" she tweeted on Thursday.
The president often makes visits to Mar-a-Lago when he's not in Washington D.C. It has been reported that the resort is on the hurricane's path.
Campbell, who served less than five months as Canada's prime minister following the resignation of Brian Mulroney in 1993, faced backlash for the tweet, many calling it "embarrassing" and "disgusting."

The lack of wisdom and self-restraint in that crowd is simply incredible.
Yeah, it would be real easy to turn it around and say that you hoped something really terrible would happen to her but WTH, she already lives in Canada.
She doubled down. Said Trump’s disgusting behavior towards Puerto Rico and his latest order to relax Methane emissions warrants the hurricane hit on his compound at Mar O Lago.

I posted this on another thread about this story, but I am not surprised to read something like this about her. If other Canadians here remember, she and her federal Progressive Conservative ilk will never forgive us as far back as 1992 when we helped to defeat their beloved Charlottetown Accord (which would have given the separatists in Quebec all sorts of goodies that no one else in Canada got) with the “Know More” campaign with Preston Manning. After the vote on Charlottetown, the federal PCs were no longer relevant and that’s why they were demolished in the October 1993 election with her at the helm of that party (the real conservative and pro freedom and pro gun votes went to Reform instead and the Liberals were helped out greatly because of NDP votes going to them, a gift from then Ontario Premier Bob Rae). The same sort of thing happened in 1997 and 2000 (with the Canadian Alliance). A late friend of mine went to a local federal PC meeting (only a few people were there not surprisingly) back in about 2001 or thereabouts and he heard far more rude things said about the Reform/Alliance party than the Chretien Liberals, even though by that time Adscam and other Chretien government misdeeds were quite well known.
And they also never forgave us for dropping the “Progressive” label from the new Conservative party. And it also does not surprise me that she does not forgive Trump and his voters for defeating Hillary because despite that person’s serious ethical and personal issues, was still much part of the same crowd Campbell belongs to.
