This would make sense in that it is so popular with people trying to increase or maintain muscle mass while reducing body fat. I used to do this naturally in that I ate dinner early and worked out with weights 1st thing in the morning without eating anything in between. I got great results in building mass and reducing body fat. It didn't work so well when I started doing circuit weight training in the morning because I just didn't have the necessary energy to do that type of high intensity cardio - it was really grueling. I did it but it just wiped me out.
Every time I try fasting...my subconcious brain IMMEDIATELY thinks I’m starving, and I feel the need to EAT, EAT, EAT....I have finally just decided to eat lightly, but healthily for ME, in a limited time frame. Not a lot of carbs, more protein and fat, with veggies. Did a 5 day, 650-700 calorie a day “fast” program last year....was pretty miserable. Did NOT get any that “high” some do. Just seemed to spend time waiting until next prescribed eating time.
When I lost weight other ways, I had much more flabby skin than with Keto and IF. So I think there is something to more HGH being produced.
Eat more fats, that will make you feel more sated, and not have the craving.
Keto is 70% of calories from fats. But HEALTHY fats, from Avocados ,fatty meats and nuts. And eggs are your friend.
YES....that’s what I have learned. The “Programmed Fast” (our doctors program - and he’s a great MD with an ND mindset) did not have enough fats in it, that’s for sure. And, a few years ago, I found that if I ate a couple eggs around 10 am...I could last most of the day without much hunger.
I think this is the best answer. You will lose the weight more slowly but you can sustain this for a lifetime and it will certainly work over time. You can also maintain any level of exercise on this diet, thus increasing your metabolism and further burning more body fat. Based on my experience over many years I think you are absolutely on the right track here.
My wife loves the Keto diet. She took it up on her own and lost a lot of weight. It’s also a lot of work. She makes her own Keto cookies, bread, etc. She loves Oscar Meyer hotdogs, now with no nitrites or nitrates and jarred German Sauerkraut. No buns.
Me, I still look good, with a paunch, but whaddaya gonna do?
It’s the inside that’s effed up. Very often, when I wake up, my blood feels like it’s on fire. never felt like that before about a year ago. What’s up with that? Anybody know?
It’s like one of those things that you don’t understand until it happens to you. Like panic attacks.(When nothing new is wrong)
It's amazing how far we have come. Back when I trained in the 80's the "common knowledge", based on government guidelines, was a low fat, high carb and moderate protein diet to build muscle and lose fat. Bread, potatoes (but NO butter), rice and pasta combined with exercise were good. Eggs were bad, and all fats were bad. I could never lose much fat so I just doubled down on reducing fat and increasing carbs and protein. The results never really came. We now know that this was just the opposite of what you should be doing. Once I changed I was amazed at the results I got.
Interesting anecdote....... once I began eating butter and eggs, my health improved
LOL, before Keto I never cooked. Now you can’t get me out of the kitchen, I love trying new Keto recipes, especially the fat bombs.
I don’t miss chocolate, I just use 100% Cacao powder and some Swerve sweetener and I make a bunch of different chocolate treats.
One thing I’ve learned however, is not to trust anything in the store that says it’s “Keto”, like “Keto Friendly Ice Cream”, like Rebel.
Better off making your own treats from scratch so you know exactly what’s in it.
I put butter on EVERYTHING. I use the sea salt and olive oil butter.
I discovered Kimchee. Love it!
May God bless you! You work an awful lot! I’m turning 62, and I feel like sh!t most of the time. I never had to worry about my health, really. But now, my kidneys are sort of failing.
But about the dieting, I try to eat good food and not too many carbs, unless I crave them. I don’t eat when I’m not hungry.I don’t sleep when I’m not tired.
Congratulations!
How much do you exercise? The hardest fat to get rid of (for men) is that last roll around the belly. I’m referring here to those over 40-45 whose metabolism has slowed down. For many relying on diet alone will get you to the “skinny fat” stage (lean everywhere but the belly). To get rid of that roll you will have to increase muscle mass because this will increase your metabolism (BMR). Your metabolism is what burns 60% of the calories you burn in a day so anything you can do to increase it is going to have significant results. I also had to add some cardio to bring out the abs. Actually a lot of cardio. But then I became addicted to cardio and my training became equal parts cardio and weight training. I am no longer interested in getting as muscular as I possibly can.
There are tons of great recipes, broken down by type of meal,ie: breakfast, snack, etc. on Mark Sissons site. Marksdailyapple.com
Too much Cardio can be detrimental, I limit Cardio to no more than 30 minutes.
HIIT (especially Tabata) is the way to go.
Ive been 18/6 IF for 6 years now.
When I started I was 250+ lbs. Now Im ~160. I dont have a scale. I eat mostly clean. When I tried to return to “normal” eating a few years ago, I felt like crap and gained 15lbs in 1 month.
Its a lifestyle for me now.
Oh, and it also allowed me to identify celiac disease as a big culprit in my feeling like crap. An added benefit, you will also find out what foods make you feel crappy right away.
