“Communist” China is really old wine in new bottles. It’s the same old Chinese imperial state dressed up in what was then fashionable European threads. These days, they’re no longer pretending to respect Marxism-Leninism, except in pro forma speeches that equate it, more or less, to unquestioning obedience to Xi Jinping’s edict of the day. The big budget Chinese TV productions are all sword and sandal epics glorifying eras once denounced as feudalistic - a history that the Party attempted to erase, perhaps because of the recurrent and frequent instances of sedition and revolt that they feared might give all kinds of people, from nomenklatura to apparatchiki to Joe Schmoe, ideas.

I agree, it’s just the latest dynasty with Xi as the emperor.
