'Green New Deal' preview? Texas town's lofty environmentalism leaves residents with a nightmare
Fox News ^ | August 29 2019 | Chuck DeVore

It wasn’t supposed to be this way. Georgetown, Texas – population 75,000 – was to be the new poster child of the green movement.

Environmental interest in Georgetown’s big push to generate all of its electricity from wind and solar power was amplified by three factors: the town and its mayor were nominally Republican; Georgetown is in an oil- and natural gas-rich state; and that state is deep-red Texas.

Former Vice President Al Gore and other climate change luminaries feted Georgetown Mayor Dale Ross, and Ross was featured prominently at renewable energy conventions.

The solution is easy. Just connect Diesel generators to recharge the depleted batteries... oh, wait.

I often wonder why my college chemistry teacher isn’t out there with his math showing the inefficiency of these environmental ideologies. O wait, math is racist.

An effin battery farm? In Texas? Where the heat dissipation rate rate on some days could be negative? How bridges have they bought?

The green craze is squandering huge amounts of capital into non productive endeavors. You simply cannot power a modern industrial society with wind and solar. In Germany the true cost of electricity to consumers exceeds 35 cents per kilowatt. In 2010 it was less than 16. without reliable cheap electricity there is economic contraction. Also the green craze is destroying auto makers. they also squandered huge amounts of capital researching, developing and manufacturing electric vehicles. They never did basic market research. It seems that non coerced consumers everywhere prefer the reliability , range and durability of cars with internal combustion engines. The auto makers can’t make a profit on electric vehicles. They are now contracting. The green craze and the squandering of capital is causing a worldwide recession.

When they start rationing electricity in Georgetown, Texas, Al Gore and Michael Bloomberg ought to take a summer vacation there.

The bedroom community of Georgetown is the liberal cancer growing on the extremely liberal Austin. This doesn’t surprise me. As a private pilot, I no longer fly into Austin Bergstrom airport since it would now cost me a small fortune in landing fees. The alternative was Georgetown. Several years ago, they had to install a control tower because of all the ground collisions and near collisions they were having. Though, I always get a kick out of flying through the area and being handed off to Austin/Georgetown control. It’s literally like listening to a comedy show on the radio.

This is a direct result of so many Americans being scientifically illiterate.

If you want to use solar, heat your hot water with it.

I have been doing so for 30 years.

99% in summer, 50% or so in winter plus some house heat.

It is fairly simple and works.

If everybody would that could, it would save a huge amount of fuel.

We are slowly converting to solar electric, NOT grid tied. It doesn't make economic sense, just prefer reliable electricity if the grid goes down.

DING, DING , DING, WE HAVE A WINNER!

The ruination of our education system was part of this plan all along. Now we have an entire generation from Kindergarten through college that have been taught the “science” of global warming is true.

The hoax is embedded into their psyche as soundly as 2 + 2 = 4.

Solar even works well up here in NH for heating the water FOR YOUR SWIMMING POOL.
At my old house I had a system I built out of black plastic pipe I had on the south facing roof of the house. It was great for the shoulder season of the summer(May and Sept) when the daily temperature is not as high. From mid June to late August the sun by itself was enough to keep the pool in the mid 80’s.

All you need is a circulator pump to draw the water up to the highest point. Then it flowed all the way down to the bottom of the deep end from there.
This was actually a lot cheaper than running a propane heater. The pump did not use a lot of electricity. It would cost $400/month to run the propane heater just for the propane.

How does your hot water system work?
What did it cost to build?
Do you have any pictures you could provide?

I'm with ya. I built a non-grid tied system a few years ago with no hope of recouping that expense. On sunny days I run the house with it and when grid is down I'm on batteries. I never regretted the expense.

Great summary.

In short, you can’t fool the Laws of Thermodynamics and Economics. The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter always return!

Here are some important words of wisdom from a noted sage on the general subject here. Turn your sound up.
