A gay couple in Russia was forced to flee the country after being accused of breaking the country's controversial "gay propaganda law" for telling their two children they are married. Under the law, which was passed in 2013, teaching minors about LGBTQ issues is considered illegal.

I wouldn’t want a law like that? The government in your bedroom? What would be next...you will have to sleep in PJs? I want a smaller government, not one that looks in your bedroom...

I find it interesting that an atheist country finds reason to fight homosexuality. I’d like to know their reasoning.

Same reason any number of pagan religions were against homosexuality as a lifestyle. It is not healthy for children and families.

Lacking children and families your civilization vanishes.

Now when I say as a lifestyle I mean the entire "homosexuality is just as good if not better then hetrosexuality". They knew that it was not. It did not produce children nor did it produce a stable relationship.

Homosexual sex was allowed as were all sorts of other perversions but you were also expected to marry a female and have children.

The other was just a hobby if you will.

“The government in your bedroom? “

No, Russia doesn’t outlaw homo relationships btw adults. It outlaws homo adoption of children. The law is about protecting children, not bathing into anyone’s bedroom

“I find it interesting that an atheist country finds reason to fight homosexuality. I’d like to know their reasoning.”

You are thinking of the USSR and its state enforced atheism. That nation ended almost 30 years ago. Old Russia returned to life in a non-monarchist version of itself. It’s Orthodox and it’s widespread. The put Chapels in nuclear submarines. They built an air droppable Orthodox chapel for paratroopers. They have had a nationwide restoration and rebuilding of historic churches destroyed during the communist era.

Today there is a nation that has a government rabidly dedicated to state atheism. It sits on the Potomac river.

Actually it is not such a bad question considering that communism and socialism are always anti-Christian.

I lean towards the fact that totalitarians can do whatever they want and they are currently dealing with negative population growth.

Watching the series Chernobyl was an excellent reminder of how backwards they are and how they manipulate propaganda to signal strength to the rest of the world.

Russian orthodox church, what in the world do they believe?

Two (Or more) adult mentally ill people can play with feces or synthetic vibrating penile shapes all they want. Just leave the children out of that debased situation.

“Putin’s “embrace” of Orthodoxy is likely a facade”

In contrast, our elites’ hatred and subversion of Christianity is very sincere

I’ll take Putin’s outward and active support for Christianity over our elites active war against it, whether or not Putin actually believes the tenets of Christianity in his heart

The Soviet Union was atheist.

Russia is Russian Orthodox, which is basically Catholicism without a pope.

Look into the legal history.

Even when sodomy (whether heterosexual or homosexual) was illegal in all states, there were very rarely any arrests or convictions. Believe me, NOBODY was looking in the windows.

The arrests generally came for reckless copulation in public spaces, or abuse of underage boys. When the police raided New York's Mafia-controlled Stonewall Inn in 1969, they weren't surveilling people's bedrooms: they were looking for, an finding, the drugging and raping of minors.

An activity which is now apparently a civil right.

It would have to do with survival. Lesbians can get pregnant if even by force or medical assistance. Many homosexuals would Never have sex to get a woman pregnant.

A nation that loses the reproductive edge is conceeding a tactical advantage.

"Russian orthodox church, what in the world do they believe?"

Pertinent to the topic at hand, they believe that sexual relations should only occur in a man-woman marriage as designed by God. Matrimony is one of the Seven Sacraments in Orthodoxy, as in Catholicism.

Aren’t these things already illegal for both heterosexuals and homosexuals in every civilized country? So why do we need special laws against consenting adults engaging in private sexual activity? I agree with Deplorable American1776; it is government overreach.

Because after 70 years of atheistic Communism an entire generation of Russians now know the word of God and they now that, as the Lord said ‘’for man to lie with man as with woman is an abomination before God and nature’’.

The Soviet Union is gone.

Russia is not an atheist country in any sense, certainly not officially.

Russia is not under the rule of godless communism any more. Churches are open and active.

Russia today is probably more openly religious than the USA and Europe. After the death of the Soviet Empire, the resurgence of the Russian Orthodox church is a wonder to behold. It is also further proof that even the most evil of regimes cannot stamp out Christianity.

“Their ‘two children’” is the problem. That IS propaganda because it is an impossibility.
