A gay couple in Russia was forced to flee the country after being accused of breaking the country's controversial "gay propaganda law" for telling their two children they are married. Under the law, which was passed in 2013, teaching minors about LGBTQ issues is considered illegal.

I never, ever, ever thought that there would be a single point on which Russia was more appealing than America. But they’ve proved me wrong.

“My niece is a Russian Orthodox nun in Vladivostok and has never given any indication that Russians are void a belief system. Quite the contrary actually.”

I hope Judy in Canada is just underinformed and not intentionally spreading neocon anti-Russian deceptions and disinformation

Yup - just underinformed. I don’t pay much attention to Russia, but I did know that churches were coming back and there was less prosecution. I wasn’t aware to what extent the government was behind it - although I suspect they’d have to be.

Not trying to spread anything neocon.....no worries.

Russia is an atheist country?
I would believe Hillary is a devout Catholic.

Russia seems to stand in the way of many western globalist, secularist, progressive, social-engineering plans.

That IMO is as bad as our extreme. Not the business of the government (including our public schools).

You might want to sit down as what I have to say may shock you. You are behind the times FRiend. It’s now the 21st century, the year being 2019. Russia is a Christian nation and the United States is sliding into moral perversion and atheism.

"I find it interesting that an atheist country finds reason to fight homosexuality. I’d like to know their reasoning."

I would encourage you to read up on Yuri Bezmenov, maybe even listen to some of his lectures on YouTube. He was a KGB defector and spoke openly about the efforts of Soviet intelligence to corrupt and destabilize the west. He likens the efforts to martial arts where you use an opponent's weakness(es) to your advantage. He spoke how the Soviets would identify pathologies in western society (i.e. drug use, homosexuality, friction between the races) and then pour funding and propaganda efforts into normalizing those pathologies with the goal of destabilizing individual communities and nations.

Putin's "embrace" of Orthodoxy is likely a facade, but as a former KGB operative, he is undoubtedly aware of how corrosive and disruptive widespread immorality can be to a country, precisely because he was part of a machine that encouraged it in the west for decades.

Well to be fair, Russia is no longer an "atheist country". Atheism as a matter of public policy went away in 1992 with the dissolution of the USSR.

One interesting aside though: even when the USSR *did* have atheism established as a matter of public policy, they still established and promoted a culture of family values, sexual, and personal morality that could easily be confused with that in "red state" USA.

In fact, it seems that the Communists only promoted the type of "corrupting values" that we today identify with the far-left in foreign, so called "opposing" countries. They understood the corrosiveness of these types of "values". I actually never understood this at all until I lived in Russia, and heard someone use "Communist" as a synonym for a "goody two-shoes" sort. This confused the hell out of me, and I had to start researching it.
