Chicago homeowners are suffocating under pensions and property tax hikes
Washington Examiner ^ | August 23, 2019 | Orphe Divounguy

The nation is more than a decade past the Great Recession, and most places are seeing a strong economic recovery and improved living standards.

Not in Chicago, and not in Illinois.

August statistics from the National Association of Realtors noted the city and state’s real estate market has severely underperformed, a trend forecasted to continue in the third quarter of this year. While the Midwest and the nation as a whole saw a very minor dip in home sales and surging Midwest home prices, Chicago missed the wave. Home sales in the Windy City experienced a 13.3% plunge, and the typical home sale price is barely climbing at all.

Well the thing about democracy is it hinges on their being hard working and patriotic citizens, at least 51 percent.

Because once you have more people wanting to vote for free stuff and ridiculous pensions etc, you’re in a lot of trouble.

Are we a democracy?

Can a country be a republic and a democracy?

I don’t know the answer :)

51 years old and I don’t know the answer!

On a per-capita basis Chicago has a pension shortfall of $10,700 while for the whole state of Illinois it is from $10,500 to $19,600.

“August statistics from the National Association of Realtors noted the city and state’s real estate market has severely underperformed...”

And, of course the cheerleaders at the NAR are hawking...”It’s a GREAT time to but a home! Contact a REALTOR TODAY!”

Watch for Chicago/Illinois to ask the Federal government to bail them out. Maybe tie that request with the ole reparation request also

I simply moved away from similar stuff in Seattle. My annual property taxes, even with a house on 32 acres, is less than $400 in rural Kentucky.

I think more people will simply move away as it gets stupid expensive to rent your own property from the government.

Idiots keep electing bigger idiots (invariably corrupt ones, and lately obese ones), and then they wonder why they have to navigate life in a craphole. The latest batch of Democrat state legislators could barely get past their orientation meetings before they raised the gas tax, and the moron they put in as mayor, having spent much of the time celebrating her triumph out of town, is soon to announce her policy initiatives, or whatever euphemism she’ll be using for raising city taxes.

And the morons who perpetuate this crap at the ballot box will be engaged in one of two activities - practicing grabbing their ankles, or scoping out real estate across the border.

The good news about the disaster in Illinois is that it has turned Indiana into one of the “reddest” states in the U.S.

How about a statistic on what percentage of Chicago is collecting a government check? An estimate of the percentage of illegals that have anchor babies that are also collecting a check?

All blue states are on the same trajectory. Democrats bought the public employee union vote with high salaries and generous benefits. The bill has come due.

If you need another reason not to vote Democrat, if returned to power, blue states will demand a federal bailout since states can’t print money.

I think it’s at 47% supporting 53% - have a retired friend who’s on SS and every year when SS gives that COLA (he get’s maybe $22) property tax and other taxes take that away, hadn’t had a real increase in years.

As long as the pols keep promising to raid the treasury on behalf of specific voting blocks in exchange for their vote, then this is what happens. At some point, you do run out of other peoples money.

Got a call from a Yankee a couple of days ago. Wanted to know what the housing market was here(Central Alabama). Schools, demographics, distance to Bham and Montgomery, job prospects, etc.

Said he was from the Chicago area and taxes and living expenses were eating him up. I thought, “Great”. And now you are wanting to move down here and screw us up like you did yourself.

You know what the difference between “Yankees” and “Damn Yankees” is, right?

That’s what’s infuriating about this. The politicians, and their corrupt MSM partners, have told us for DECADES that if you don’t raid the treasury on behalf of some constituency you are heartless, you lack compassion, you are racist, etc.

And the dimwitted voters bought it almost every single time.
