In the meantime we are leasing Kham Ranh Bay from Vietnam.

One of my old Navy Squadrons I served with back during our ‘Vietnam’ dust-up. VP-40, out of N.I., CA via Sangley Point, PI on to Cam Rahn Bay.
Yes, I have flown many miles in a P5M. Up and down the coast of Vietnam. Sleeping on it’s wings. Catching a launch from the plane to shore then having to bum, beg or buy a ride to the Club. Ordering a couple of beers (for a starter) then finding out you couldn’t pay with good old American greenbacks. You had to have ‘funnymoney’ as we called it.
After a night of rounds bought and back-slapping the ‘grunts’ - you had to get back to da plane. So now we do everything in reverse.
Forgot to mention, I fell in love at Cora’s Up-Scope” in Cavite, which is outside the gate at Sangley Point. Her name was “Mercy” anyone remember her? If you remember the young lady you’ll understand why her name was Mercy.
Anyway, we VP-40ers are so important we have our own web page...
On that site you will see a picture of QE-7. I flew in that sitting behind the ass end of a M-60.
