It only makes sense if you could commute to work. It’ll be wise for New York to invest in a high speed rail from Albany to New York City. It would be great if you could live in Albany but go to work in Manhattan.

Over the years, Disney quietly weighed in against proposals for commuter rail projects or connections to Disney World of any sort. An Orange County Commission Chairman in the 70s had his proposal for an area light rail system with a connection to Disney World denounced by the Sentinel as "Treadway's Trolly." I knew Treadway and not long after he told me that the Sentinel editor had sheepishly admitted to him in private that the publisher and Disney had virtually dictated the editorial.
Growing, growing, growing -- and no longer overawed by Disney World -- the Orlando area now has a limited commuter rail system that goes nowhere near Disney. For opening in 2022, Brightline/Virgin Trains USA is building a dedicated rail line between Orlando International Airport and Cocoa, where it will turn south toward existing stations in West Palm Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, and Miami.
They have also announced their intention to establish new lines and stations at Disney World and Tampa. Brevard is reportedly lobbying for a station as well.
Perversely, even if Brightline's plans come to fruition, due to Disney's spiking of "Treadway's Trolly" years ago and similar proposals, the workers at Disney World and other tourist venues will not have the benefit of being able to commute to work on a relatively inexpensive rail system. Instead, low wage Puerto Ricans and illegal immigrants will continue to live close enough to manage the commute.
Well, former gov, secstate and epshteen pal bill richardson had the rail runner put in from Albuquerque to Santa Fe. Not sure the profitability of the venture but I don’t believe it was a boon. Maybe CedarDave knows and will comment. Or TijerasSlim.
Thanks for the update. Talk of the rail between Orlando and Cocoa/Port Canaveral have been underway, as you said, for decades. Maybe. We have no dog in the fight since we moved from Canaveral Groves about 8 years ago when the shuttle program ended.
Sure let’s have another government study. where I live they’ve been doing study after study on building a second bridge to Canada ... for the last 30 years.
they probably could have built two Bridges already for what they spent on government studies

New Mexico is too sparsely populated to support that kind of rail. But just imagine if there’s a high speed rail connection from Albany to New York City! The city is ridiculously expensive and Upstate New York is being depopulated. If there’s a way to take a train from your house in Albany to your office in Manhattan in an hour, many people would want to do that.
