A former Obama adviser set the stage for a potentially nasty confirmation fight in the Senate next year within an hour of the Supreme Court announcing Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg recently completed three weeks of radiation treatment after doctors found a localized cancerous tumor on her pancreas.
"If there is a SCOTUS vacancy next year and @senatemajldr carries through on his extraordinary promise to fill it-despite his own previous precedent in blocking Garland-it will tear this country apart," David Axelrod said in a tweet Friday afternoon.

If there is a vacancy and Trump appoints a Conservative, Get your Popcorn out. The Democrats will make the last confirmation look like child’s play. They will throw everything but the kitchen sink (and Maybe that) whether it be truth or lies against whoever trump nominates. The good news is they are still in the Minority and I don’t think That Graham will be as patient and polite with them like Grassley was.
It doesn't have to be so. But we saw what they did to try to derail Kavanaugh. Who knows what chicanery they will come up with to stop the successor to RBG.
