Charles Payne on Fox Business News just announced that President Trump will sign a memorandum that will eliminate all student debt for disabled vets.
Bravo!
Disabled during their service or at any time?
Doesn’t matter. John Kerry spent a semester you know where. So he went. Let the rats bring up Abu Grab-ass.
Trump cares for our wounded heroes.
He is a leader of compassion and love

Not sure if I like this. I am all for making them interest free. But, not paying back a loan? Is it going to be pro rated based on the disability? Because I know a bunch of 10% disabled from the Field Artillery.
Splitting us into more categories is not helpful.
Not sure if I like this or not.
Sorry, this is a slippery slope.
Doesn’t the GI Bill already pay for some or all continued Education for Veterans?
It’s not on their business or news website.
Yes.
Vets should be given the same respect as a short order cook. They’re both given a job to do. The vet puts himself at risk and deserves recognition. Even Al Gore the Senator’s son who had his own personal bodyguard while working as a journalist in Viet Nam. He never left Saigon.
This is the camel’s nose under the tent. And Trump is going to do this via executive orders? How, exactly? And what is to stop the next Democratic president from unilaterally cancelling student debt for whatever mascot minority is currently big on the leftist pander meter? How about cancelling debt for all single mothers? Or for released prisoners? Or Dreamers? Or public schoolteachers? Etc. Before you know it, only cishet white males will be expected to pay tuition.
As much as I respect and support our military, I’d like to see the blatant misuse of classifying veterans as disabled repaired before we start handing out additional benefits. There are people within the VA that heavily push vets to apply to be classified as disabled, so they can get $$$. For as many vets as there are who truly need this support, there are a large number who are milking the system.
Do they not qualify for the G.I. Bill?
I would prefer an acre of land and no federal taxes for the rest of their lives.
This would apply only to those who have been in actual heavy combat.
not sure I fully agree with this. Combat vets or all vets? Pretty sure there are millions of people just as deserving as Corporal Susie Q who served a tour of duty in a German office building.
“Vets should be given the same respect as a short order cook”
Absolutely. No telling how many cooks have been permanently disabled from (egg)SHELL FRAGMENTS to the eye!
I’d really rather have him figure out a new pathway to get education affordable than just writing off student debt. It sets a bad precedent.
Education really should not cost more $10,000/yr for anybody.
I appreciate his gesture for the vets.
I’ve got a deadbeat member of my family that served 4 years in the Army during peacetime (never served overseas) that doesn’t support his family and mooches off of everyone. The VA gave him a partial disability from broken bones that are only an issue because he can stop eating 5,000 calories a day on someone else’s dime and his weight makes them hurt if he stands too long. He has drawn up massive student loan debts on zero income (other than the partial VA disability) and told me he has no intention of ever paying it back. I respect our vets and believe they deserve help, but this needs to be considered very carefully.
