Maybe it's just me, or something I heard or read in the past, but.......at one time......wasn't Greenland....

or wouldn't it have been named something else?

THe legend says it was named Greenland to divert people from the more habitable Iceland to it during the times of Leif Erickson?? During the Viking colonization period limited agricuture on Greenland did occur as that part of the world was much warmer than today.
