reedom of movement by European Union nationals into the UK will end overnight from October 31 in the event of a no deal Brexit, Priti Patel has signalled.

Correct. Republic of Ireland is EU, Northern Ireland is UK. So to prevent freedom of movement into the UK from the EU, you have to have controls on the border.
They stopped allowing “anyone from the commonwealth” way back in the 1950s.
Since then, they have allowed immigration from the commonwealth based on the UK’s terms.
Though, the news from Boris Johnson’s cabinet is that after cutting off the EU migrants, they will replace with commonwealth migrants

Thirdly it's shorthand for nationals of EU countries - a person is a British citizen and a member of the EU nations so gets both benefits
Quite correct, Priti Patel effectively said that she will implement SOME kind of border - it may be this spot checks and cameras - but they haven’t yet got anything like this in place.

This was always the solution. The DUP is just going to have to accept that they cannot prevent ID checks - that would effectively mean holding the entire UK hostage. Unacceptable.
For the DUP, if they agree to a border in the Irish sea it ends their entire raison d’etre. That will destroy them permanently, so they will oppose it.
BoJo I feel will get tacit consent from Sturgeon in return for a indyref 2 agreement.
There won’t be a border at the Irish Sea. There will simply be ID checks. If you’re a Brit living in Northern Ireland, no problem. Just bring your ID along. It would not be tough to pick out the Romanians let alone the Arabs and Africans from the natives.
