Even if we did, hasn’t WWI, WWII, Korea, Viet Nam, and the Gulf illustrated that going to war for another nation is a thankless task.
I am in favor of a strong military and a large military budget for defense. I am no longer in favor of sending our young men to die for people who in the end will not appreciate our sacrifice.
Hong Kongers are looking to us as an example. We’re too busy fighting with each other to encourage those in Hong Kong to fight for their freedom.
I, personally, support them. Our founders fought for the same not so long ago, though they had the benefit of having weaponry comparable to the British, while Hong Kong does not.
I understand why our government doesn’t want to speak on the matter and risk combat with China. However, we can still encourage them as individual Americans. They’re waving our flag for goodness’ sake, so they deserve some moral support. They’re going to need it.
If the Hong Kong protesters had a second amendment we would not be having this discussion.

If we did and we won them their independence let's not forget China is thousands of years old.
