President Trump made his name on the world’s most famous island. Now he wants to buy the world’s biggest.
The idea of the U.S. purchasing Greenland has captured the former real-estate developer’s imagination, according to people familiar with the discussions, who said Mr. Trump has, with varying degrees of seriousness, repeatedly expressed interest in buying the ice-covered autonomous Danish territory between the North Atlantic and Arctic oceans.
U.S. officials view Greenland as important to American national-security interests. A decades-old defense treaty between Denmark and the U.S. gives the U.S. military virtually unlimited rights in Greenland at America’s northernmost base, Thule Air Base. Located 750 miles north of the Arctic Circle, it includes a radar station that is part of a U.S. ballistic missile early-warning system. The base is also used by the U.S. Air Force Space Command and the North American Aerospace Defense Command.
The U.S. has sought to derail Chinese efforts to gain an economic foothold in Greenland. The Pentagon worked successfully in 2018 to block China from financing three airports on the island.

The President is showing outstanding foresight. Greenland already occupies a strategic location and if the Climate Change Fanatics are somehow correct, and the Arctic becomes ice free, it will be much more important.

Word on the street is that there are Russian investors discussing weather it would be better to invest in the Trump Greenland resort project rather then the temporarily shelved Trump hotel center in Moscow

if they sell it to us, they can erase their national debt. If they dont sell it to us.. in a few years greenland will declare independence and they will get nothing..
so ... the choice is ... nothing or erasing their entire national debt.

I disagree. It is likely a strategic leak and a supreme troll. There is historical precedence. China wants it. Evidently there are rare-earth minerals there as well as strategic positioning.
Everyone is now researching Greenland, the US airforce presence and becoming aware of it’s value and history.
Wait for the progs to start agitating over White Supremacy since Greenland is majority indigenous (Inuit).

Agreed. I think I’ve read elsewhere that Greenland is a net drag on Denmark’s economy. Likely the locals are dependent on the airbase for a lot: jobs/imports/water transport as well as security. Also, probably not enough Inuit to be much of an organizable anti-US force (altho the progs will try).
We should buy Greenland and Denmark.
It would be a great for the Federal alphabet agencies.

Law of the Sea Treaty gives a nation rights to 200 miles of ocean and whatever lies beneath.
At the top of the world, weapons could hit a lot of places quickly.
If Trump seriously pursues this, I would be pleased and appreciate that he is a strategic thinker.

Lol, Greenland is a sovereign state and country, not a piece of property and real estate. You can’t just buy Greenland.
So it could be compared to buying a first peoples reservation from Denmark. They could agree to be a “territory” though, like Puerto Rico.

Demark sold us their part of the Virgin islands back in 1917, so why can’t they sell Greenland if they want to?
