Cut off ALL US money’s flowing in and just watch an agreement materialize.

Not a problem. Trump just has to re-negotiate the deal with the new president. Withhold any moneys until the deal is made.

America is not safe for any asylum seekers. Full of white nationalists with guns. Ask any democrat.

Is this deja vu? Didn’t we just re-negotiate this in the last few weeks?

Simple. Just pay them to keep them THERE! Better to pay them than have them come HERE and THEN we pay, FOREVER.

Yup! That was what got them to the table to begin with. Now we should simply redirect the money they were getting elsewhere where it will be more appreciated.

Reply to my own post...

Yeah but then people will flock to Guatemala for these benefits!

Oh, you mean like they do when they INVADE the U.S.?

My first inclination is the same thing. Just reduce the money we send.

And then you realize China is trying to get a foothold in the Americas.

Our trade policies have made this a much more complex and dangerous planet.

Time to stop sending taxpayer dollars to any foreign country. They all use us, even our so-called allies.

If you ask me, it’s time to start picking up the kids and women who cross the border and immediately ship them back home, and time to start shooting the adult males. That should stop things pretty quickly. This is an invading army that is conquering the US without firing a shot. I’m surprised they didn’t think of this tactic decades ago.

This is negative spin, on a good election outcome for us in Guatemala.

The Conservative law and order candidate (their former director of prisons) got elected.

Of course, he needs to engage and get the best deal he can, because the relationship with the USA is the biggest risk, and biggest opportunity to his economy.

You can bet that if Donald Trump had been elected President of Guatemala, he would want to renegotiate this deal as well.

The bottom line is that this new President is a much better bet to effectively use some foreign aid, and it is likely worthwhile to fund some capacity building for Guatemalan police and Military to better control immigration, and reimburse them for some of the costs they will have to hold back immigrants - probably some amount of general economic development and palm greasing as well.

If Guatamala isn't safe, it's because the Guatamalans themselves make it unsafe.

So how does sending these shiftless bums to America help us? If there is anything I despise about Central Americans, it is the fact that they have fouled their own nest and are so lazy and apathetic that won't clean it up or fix it. Instead their solution is to foul our nest.

He’ll insist that Trump give him something tangible. Trump will do it. He totally gets it.

Visible rewards to a cooperative Guatemala, could also incentivize the neighbors.
