This was pre-ordained the day China took over from GB. The thugs can’t abide freedom and we’re going to stamp it out. I predict that they will pay an economic price for this as business flees.

“This was pre-ordained the day China took over from GB.”
Have a personal view of the takeover. My company put the roof on the Hong Kong airport and I was in HK the day the Brits turned over the colony to the Chinese. They had the turnover televised and it was striking. The British did the stiff flag removal and saluting ceremony. The Chinese for their part added a group of helo’s. dropping special forces onto the parade grounds, firing automatic weapons at a collection of blue balloons along a wall in the compound. Popped all the balloons so they weren’t firing blanks.

Thought it was definitely a show of future event possibilities. Wondered who the Hong Kong people thought the blue guys were. It was them of course and that was the point.

China "took over" nothing. They always were the owners of Hong Kong, they leased it to Britain, the lease was up.

Just as Reagan bankrupted the USSR with Star Wars, so Trump is bankrupting the PRC with tariffs. The current government may not last until the next US election. With Trump’s 2020 victory they will not last into 2021.

Absolutely correct. From the moment the British gave it up, HK’s entire future was up to the ChiComs.

They can crush HK anytime they feel like it, like you or I deciding on what to wear today.

Looks like today it is a brutal a red shirt and tyrannical purple pants.

This is probably the best that can be expected. If there is widespread violence and killings, businesses may think twice about staying in HK. If that happens, you wonder long it will take for their economy to recover - years? Decades?
