MOSCOW Russia's state nuclear agency Rosatom said on Saturday that five of its staff members were killed in an accident during tests on a military site in northern Russia.
The accident occurred during the engineering and technical support of isotope power sources on a liquid propulsion system, Rosatom said in a statement.
The statement did not give details of the isotope power sources.
A further three staff members suffered injuries, including burns, and were receiving medical treatment in specialized facilities, it said.

KABLOOEY.!!!!
Yeah, and 31 people were killed at Chernobyl (I believe this was the number released by the Russian Government).
The Russians are trying to come up with a weapon to use against us but they are killing themselves with this weapon.
I read that residents in that area were buying lot of iodine.
See this, the largest object ever made and ever moved:
Think this story is an update released today. Different casualty numbers.
Also mentions people being treated for burns - I wonder if those are heat, chemical, or radiation burns or some combination.
If history tells us anything about the U.S.S.R./Russia's tales about these "accidents", we'll probably never know the truth.
And not one person has been killed by nuclear power in the USA. So the Russian disasters were needed.
Now, Ted Kennedy’s car, OTOH....
Not true, check out SR1 experimental reactor. 3 died.
So yesterday when I sarcastically called it a nuclear rocket engine I was unknowingly right. That’s just great. Just what we need, the Russians mucking around with a hypersonic weapon with a nuclear drive. If the bang doesn’t kill you, you rot out from the inside due to the contrail.
You got your plutonium in my beryllium!
No, you got your beryllium in my plutonium!
There are several good documentaries on YouTube about the SR1 accident. Its a really interesting story.
