Nebraska’s Sasse backed by GOP leaders despite Trump stance
The Washington Post ^ | 8/5/19 | Grant Schulte

U.S. Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska will surround himself with many of the state’s top Republicans on Monday for a likely announcement that he’ll seek a second term, despite angering some party activists with his repeated criticism of President Donald Trump ... The event follows news last week that Sasse could face a primary challenge from Matt Innis, a Lincoln-based GOP activist and former chairman of the Lancaster County Republican Party. Innis, a Trump supporter, announced his candidacy last week and blasted Sasse for making statements critical of the president.

Keep Sasse. Let Trump slap him around if need be. Save our powder for other races.

“No More B.S.” (Ben Sasse) would be a great slogan.

Yeah the Republican way. We don’t need no stinking values. Go along to get along. Sasse is POS. GET RID OF HIM.

Perhaps Sasse and his Nebraska public official backers need him in office to stay out of jail. Remember that Denny Hastert was one of his mentors and that he was the supervisor of the House page program.

It will be interesting to see how Innes does in trying to primary Sasse the Ass.

The Nebraska GOP still sees UpChuck Hagel as one of their premier candidates.

We’ll see how Innes does, but if Sasse remains the candidate he’ll likely be reelected. There is no democrat, living or dead, that we would vote for.

Say what? Other than being COS to a congressman for 6 months Sasse had nothing to do with the House.

I think that the 'Banker' is implying that sasse used his ass for denny's pleasure.

I could be wrong, but that's what I read between the lines.

I can't find any indication Sasse was a page or anywhere near Hastert.

Just a random slur, then?

Sasse was a supervisor of the House page program while Hastert was a member. During that time there was a scandal related to members having illicit contact with pages.

Do you have a reference for that? I can't find any indication that Sasse had anything to do with the House other than be Chief of Staff to a Rep for 6 months.

See this old Free Republic post about Sasse’s proximity to the Congressional Page scandal:

Ok, Sasse was a tutor, not a supervisor, to the page program from 1997-1999.

The Foley scandal broke 7 years later although Foley was being creepy with pages as early as 2000.

Hastert's only involvement was that he was the Speaker and should have known about and stopped the abuse.

There's absolutely nothing to tie Sasse to either the Foley scandal or to Hastert.
