The top US and British diplomats said Wednesday they were prepared to move "as soon as possible" on a trade deal after Britain's planned withdrawal from the European Union on October 31...

Last year, the two countries exchanged $262 billion in goods and services, governed by the US trade agreement with the European Union.

Britain was America's fifth-largest export market, and the United States ran a $20 billion trade surplus.

...Meanwhile Britain's International Trade Secretary Liz Truss, traveling with Raab, had lined up meetings with top American officials including Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross.

Fingers crossed that other nations follow suit and defy Merkel’s Fourth Reich. Defections from the EU itself would be very sweet.

“Its about time the Brits and the Yanks get the band back together!“

Ditto! Gotta believe most Brits still like us, despite all the lies told to them (and to all Europeans).

A bang-up US/UK trade improvement would be the bees knees. Could they reincarnate Benny Hill?

In before Cronos claims that whatever the deal is it will be terrible for the UK, poor little Britain will just have to roll over and take it as big bad America exploits them to the hilt with a totally lopsided deal....just like everybody else in the world because Britain is a mere supplicant...will have to bring out the begging bowl and that’s the only way they could get any kind of deal at all and gosh, they’d be so much better off staying in the EU blah blah blah.

Australia is also chomping at the bit to get a FTA deal done with the UK ASAP.

A side note: Until just a week or 2 ago, I didn’t know that the UK’s GDP is just twice the size of Australia’s. Based on population (Australia has about 1/3 the population of the UK) I would have thought the UK’s GDP would be 3 or 4 times the size of ours.

Yet Australia isn’t in a supranational trade bloc like the EU. Says a lot about the value of the EU. Despite assertions to the contrary Britain’s economic story has been one of continuing economic decline relative to the rest of the world since we joined that protectionist bloc.
