If most of the people are driving 70 mph, which is what the speed limit used to be, the 55 mph speed limit is the real problem. There’s apparently no geometric constraint to slow drivers down and signage just won’t do it. Study after study after study have proven that. Raise the speed limit back up so that there are no longer slower drivers that create the speed differential between slow and fast drivers and that should reduce the number of accidents. Take that advice from this retired highway engineer.

Many vehicles travel 70 mph in spite of the posted 55 mph speed limit.

So do we need more speed limit laws or should they just enforce the existing law in this dangerous area?

There used to be fewer than 3,000 crashes on Interstate 75 years ago. The number has shot up 40 percent to nearly 4,000 crashes annually.

Hmmm...I'll bet traffic is a lot more than 40 percent higher now than "years ago".

Cause on a lot of the back roads in Kentucky you have to slow down to 25MPH to navigate the curve.

In the words of Harry Truman, so damned dangerous it’s safe.

Doesn’t that area also suffer from dense fog; clear one minute then suddenly dense fog?

"They're blasting all the time. Traffic is slowing. You got barrels, construction, vehicles coming in and out of locations. It's a dangerous stretch of road right now,"

... because people don't bother to slow down for construction zones.

Interstates that have construction going on, have more wrecks than interstates with no construction. Some states will never stop the construction projects because it is a constant source of federal funding.
