PING.
Then we need to ban cars. That will solve the problem................
Just ban the roads. Everyone has an SUV these days, so they can go ‘off-road’.
: )
Older interstates were never designed for these much higher speeds or the larger vehicles, SUVs to tandem trucks, that we see now.
That is a problem, especially when people choose to drive like maniacs.
I read once that the US Interstate system was patterned after the German Autobahn.
It was primarily designed for speeds of 100+ MPH to move military equipment, men and goods in a time of war...................
Same thing, I-65 in Indiana.
Military equipment in the pre-WWII era did NOT move at 100+ mph unless it had wings, in which case the Autobahn was not needed.
Nor in the Cold War era for post-WWII construction.
If most of the people are driving 70 mph, which is what the speed limit used to be, the 55 mph speed limit is the real problem. There’s apparently no geometric constraint to slow drivers down and signage just won’t do it. Study after study after study have proven that. Raise the speed limit back up so that there are no longer slower drivers that create the speed differential between slow and fast drivers and that should reduce the number of accidents. Take that advice from this retired highway engineer.
I’ve been on the autobahn, though as a passenger, not a driver, and many, many moons ago.
Different kettle of fish. Straighter roadways, kept in better shape, folks less inclined to break traffic laws.
Hubby was back there a few years ago. He said some areas have speed limits now.
But our interstates were never designed for the speeds, traffic volumes, and vehicles we have now. And that is a big problem.
So do we need more speed limit laws or should they just enforce the existing law in this dangerous area?
CONSTRUCTION & IPHONES are the main disruptions...then late reactions two both cause the slamming on of brakes and now you have chain reactions and a pile of sh*t on the interstate...
speed well maybe, but if you are paying attention and providing the proper distance between vehicles it should be minimal!
What do you do about the increasing number of elderly drivers who still utilize interstates but don’t feel comfortable driving at posted speeds?
Most are semis slamming into stopped traffic.
far fewer yahoos on the autobahn, harder to get a license in the Bundesrepublik.
far less sloppy driving as I remember from the early 70s (except for American GIs)..
Need to restrict everyone to Amish buggies
I was going with the traffic at 95mph in the ‘fast’ lane on I-75 when passed by a Prius going in the ‘slow’ lane.
What about this story leads you to believe that driving too slowly is the problem?
