The United States and the Taliban have resolved differences in peace talks over the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan and guarantees from the insurgents that they will cut ties with other extremist groups, a Taliban official said Tuesday.
The U.S. side did not immediately provide details about the latest round of talks held in Qatar, where the Taliban maintain a political office. But Zalmay Khalilzad, the American envoy who has been leading the talks since they began late last year, tweeted that they had made "excellent progress."
The two sides have been meeting for the last two days, and technical teams were continuing discussions on Tuesday in Doha. The Taliban official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss details of the negotiations.

LOL was my reaction to that passage too. One thing we learned from this war is that Islamic warlords cannot be trusted from one minute to the next, unless you pay them a lot of money. And that buys you another 30 minutes of loyalty.

Thanks.

Get em out....give it back.
All those lives lost. Blood and treasure.
It keeps its rep, Afghanistan: the death of empires.

A bit off topic, but I read that during the British Afghan Wars, the Brits pulled a sneaky trick on the Afghans and shot up a bunch of them. The Chief sent a note chiding the Brits because they were expected to play fair and not do things like that. Dunno if they complied, but in the end, they had just as much luck as the Russians or Americans.
“This is how the United States loses a war.
To be honest, after Vietnam I’m surprised anyone would take our leadership seriously when it comes to these military campaigns in Third World dumps.”
We didn’t lose, we stayed too long after we won.
Staying longer will not allow us to win anything and will only cost us more blood and treasure.
