Playboy and Penthouse are so tame compared to what’s out there today, the old line about ‘I only read it for the articles’ was never more true. Even back in the 70’s, magazines like Hustler and Screw left them in the dust as far as explicit nudity went. I wouldn’t know about that, though. *cough* I only read them for the articles.

There is the point though. Even with how explicit other magazines were, Playboy persisted. I always preferred the less explicit Playboy, and when explicit was desired, I turned to the internet. The medium may change and become digital, but magazines like Playboy and Suicide Girls will likely continue. One can appreciate a nude woman without the image being hardcore. It’s why burlesque still exists. You could see a much more hardcore performance at a full-nude strip bar, but many prefer burlesque specifically because it is more soft core.

I always appreciated the artwork by Olivia too, as her paintings are pinup-like and have an artistic direction. My drawings are very similar, though not as thoroughly detailed. I haven’t picked up a pencil in months, and with my shaky hands, paint and pastels are out of the question. That level of talent is what I hope to achieve.

I’ve been debating whether or not to buy an Olivia coffee table book.
