A spiritual retreat center in Western Massachusetts, home to 19 acres of bucolic fields and forested trails, may become a residential treatment facility for young men who need to detach from technology and overcome their debilitating addiction to video games.
Odyssey Behavioral Healthcare is awaiting a special permit approval from the town of Leyden, near the Vermont border, to launch the Greenfield Recovery Center, intended for people with gaming disorder.
The voluntary program could accommodate about 30 patients who are on average between 18 and 25 years old, said Dr. David Greenfield, an Odyssey clinical partner and founder of the Center for Internet and Technology Addiction in West Hartford, Conn. The new center would be in his name.

How about one for girls and their phones?
Now I have to get back to my Links 2003 game. I'm 25 under!
The “Andiwaslikeomigod” types? That would be sexist. /sarc.
Well, most of the hospital based rehabs in the area are dealing with heroin addiction, so I guess they want to catch the “overflow.”
Six hundred bucks a day, and no computers or wifi? LOL.
Yoga and horseback riding (that was the treatment for Anthony Weiner’s addiction)?
The entire state needs to be turned into an addiction treatment center... for progressivism & electing Massachusetts Democrats.
In the early 60s we lived in a rural area and the only phone service was a party line. I still remember our ring was 2 shorts.
A neighbor had two, well they were actually pretty hot teenage girls. They would stay on the phone so long at times that you would have to break in and ask them to let you make an important call.
The special permit is for a massive fiber optic link right of way for burial to the center.../S
We’re turning every vice into a disease.
All this means is more people on psych meds = more mass shootings.
I gotta get back to work now, the boss is coming...
“Were turning every vice into a disease.”
So right, there are only 3 addictive substances - opiates, barbiturates and alcohol. Notice they are all CNS depressants.
Instead of the misuse of the word addiction, try “habit-forming.”
Someone had Dukakis on a couple of nights ago...forgot already whose program it was but it was on FOX...Tucker or Sean? Good grief - these people never give up. Old demon-rats never die - they just keep pedaling the same old tired lines...had to get his licks in about our president, of course. If they won’t die, wouldn’t you think they’d get a little smarter???
You forgot nicotine and whatever else in tobacco smoke is addictive.
It is not addictive, it is habit forming. Millions of people quit smoking everyday with no ill effects except a craving.
A craving is not an addiction.
And that is subjective many times as well, lots of folks like to call something people enjoy doing an addiction to ‘shame’ them into not doing it.
I’d say if it keeps them out of trouble or cuts their stress down, do it. If it starts truly messing up their lives and means they aren’t paying bills and losing jobs, then yep, it’s a problem. But if they arent married its their problem to deal with, no one elses. If we cant lock people up for being crazy, this is mild compared to homeless on the streets in a cardboard box, talking to imaginary friends and pooping in the street.
Mostly this is women upset about a majority male past time where men have fun without them.
All right, then, habit forming, but you still left off nicotine from the substances you mentioned.
Good grief.
