Washington Free Beacon senior writer Bill Gertz appeared on Mark Levin's radio show Thursday evening to discuss his recent interview with Chinese dissident Guo Wengui about China's efforts to influence the 2020 presidential election.
In his conversation with Levin, Gertz reflected on his interview with Guo, who told Gertz earlier this week that the Chinese government has been deploying a prolonged campaign to defeat President Donald Trump in 2020. Gertz asserted the Chinese government may try to wait out Trump's time in office so it can negotiate trade deals with a new Democratic president if Trump loses in 2020.
Trump announced Thursday he would impose an additional 10-percent tariff on certain Chinese exports as a trade agreement between the United States and China has yet to materialize.
"The China threat to me is the most serious threat facing the country," Gertz told Levin.
He pointed to the economic integration between the U.S and China and how those relationships make it difficult for lawmakers and military officials to address Chinese aggression head-on, which he referred to as "an existential threat."
Levin and Gertz also discussed the growing military presence of Chinese forces in the South China Sea.
"There's a major push right now to try and build up of American courses in Asia so we won't have to go to war with China," Gertz said of the government's efforts to deter a war hypothetical war with China. Looking towards the presidential race, Gertz warned the Chinese government would prefer to have a Democrat in the White House.
"It's going to be a huge problem if the Democrats retake the administration," Gertz said, pointing to former Vice President Joe Biden's recent downplaying of threat China poses to the United States.

Dissident billionaire outlines Beijing’s four-pronged influence strategy
China is conducting an aggressive disinformation and influence campaign designed to block the re-election of President Trump in 2020, according to a dissident Chinese billionaire who until recently was close to senior Beijing leaders.
Guo Wengui, an exiled Chinese real estate tycoon-turned-anti-communist critic, said in an interview that details of the influence operation were disclosed recently by Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan in Beijing.
The campaign has been underway since the 2018 mid-term election and involves enlisting pro-China elements inside the United States to end the Trump administration after four years.
“China has been protesting western powers trying to interfere in the domestic politics of China but in fact China is not only trying interfere in the domestic politics of the United States, they are interfering publicly with U.S. elections,” Guo told the Washington Free Beacon.
According to Guo, who has known current Chinese President Xi Jinping for more than 10 years, the anti-Trump influence operation is being directed by Xi and Wang through the Communist Party of China (CCP) National Security Commission, a high-level body created in 2013 that since then has tightened control over all other security organs.
“For the 2020 U.S. presidential election, the security committee has given very clear instructions that it is not permissible for Trump to win the 2020 election,” Guo said speaking through an interpreter.
By deploying its intelligence and influence resources in the United States, the CCP is working to exploit the harsh political divisions between Democrats and Republicans in seeking to unseat the Trump administration.

China owns much of Hollywood.
He said China invests in news media, threatens to limit access, close news bureaus, kick out reporters from China, etc...
Not just media, but they are influencing with lobbying, military, etc. Gertz interview was very enlightening and troubling!
Since the days of Charlie Trie and before, the ChiComs have got a lot of play for the pay they paid.
Taking this story with a grain of salt.
One of my other political sites pointed out that it was no less than the very same Free Beacon which peddled the phony dossier.
Pretty much impugns their credibility, in my book.

How ironic and hypocritical in that China is the biggest polluter on the planet...Emissions? They are emitting huge amounts of fluorocarbons as I type. Sheesh!
