The chief of the Chinese military garrison in Hong Kong has spoken for the first time about the ongoing unrest in the city, warning that violent clashes would not be tolerated and that the army was determined to protect Chinas sovereignty.
Chen Daoxiang, the commander of the Peoples Liberation Armys (PLAs) Hong Kong garrison, made the warning at a reception in Hong Kong celebrating the 92nd anniversary of the Chinese military on Wednesday, when the garrison also released a promotional video that stated that troops stationed in the city were able to protect its long-term stability.
One of the scenes in the video features a soldier shouting in Cantonese during an anti-riot drill: All consequences are at your own risk.

Who cares if they do, Hong Kong is part of China. The 99-year lease to UK expired and UK handed it back over.
Don’t think our dear Globalist leaders aren’t watching and learning how to do this here when the time comes. That’s why I care.
China is very afraid that this revolution will spread to the mainland.
It will spread as there are forces at work here they don’t understand.
People will fight to the death if you try to take away their freedom, but if you bribe them with candy, they will give you their soul for free.
This is how liberals, socialism and communism captures souls without a battle.
It spreads to the mainland and then Taiwan declares independence.
So are Facebook and Google.
What they are doing in China is a test drive.
Here, their "social credit score" will be "voluntary", but in five years, you won't be able to buy a stick of gum if your score is low.
Amen. All they really have to do then is massacre the ones who won’t sell their soul.
It’s a pretty small group. But they remain.
“How ya gonna keep ‘em down on the farm after they’ve got daisey Maes?” bert
Tiananmen Square #2
The sad part is that the Communist Party of China remains successful at selling these things as “defending China”, as if the offenses were an existential threat to the nation of China.
When in both the Tiananmen Square case and Hong Kong today, there is no existential threat to the nation of China or even Chinese nationalism. The only entity who is threatened is the Communist Party of China and its ability to maintain its dictatorship.
Nationalism and the Communist Party of China are only tied together because the Communist Party of China hijacked Chinese nationalism and made it a slave to the party and its agenda.
Khomeini and his gang of Mullahs did the same thing in Iran. They hijacked Persian nationalism, eliminated all the other groups that worked with them as part of a “nationalist” coalition (on the way to defeating the Shah), and now OCCUPY Iranian nationalism the same way the Communist Party of China holds Chinese nationalism hostage to its dictatorial control.
It spreads to the mainland and then Taiwan declares independence.
“Who cares if they do, Hong Kong is part of China. The 99-year lease to UK expired and UK handed it back over.”
Ignorant and moronic statement.
You make great points.
There certainly will not be a massacre at the level of 1989.
But they will continue to use agent provocateurs to manufacture an excuse to use the PLA and enforce martial law.
They will then pass the extradition bill and begin rounding up leaders in HK to send to Beijing for trial and gulag.
I hope Trump and his administration stop it before it happens.
No other politician from either party would care or do anything.
I agree with you. The beating of the drums from Beijing is all about unity and normalcy. The only threat Hong Kong is to Beijing is the ideas of freedom and democracy. And if those ideas ever get into the heads of the mainland then who knows what may happen. So Hong Kong needs to be taught a lesson. It's just a matter of when and in what kind of form.
So, what do you want to do about it? Go to war over Chinese territory returned to China by the U.K.?
The Communists successfully hijacked the existing political culture of China, pre 1949 - bowing to the imperial center. They did not change it, they - Mao and the politburo - merely took on the mantle of it for themselves. That is a deep cultural trait among the Chinese people, with many centuries backing it up. With that the Communists have successfully also hijacked the mantle of “Chinese nationalism”. They are the imperial center in new clothes and masses of mainlaind Chinese would not argue with it.
Hong Kong is a different story. They - their brief life as a British colony, broke the mold of the political culture of the old imperial center. And they do not want to go back to it.
