Trump is working on a proposal that would allow the U.S. to import drugs from Canada, HHS Secretary Alex Azar says.
Working on a plan on how we can import drugs safely and effectively from Canada so the American people get the benefit of the deals that pharma themselves are striking with other countries, he says.

Then we have the political involvement of Big Pharma, not as blatant perhaps as Big Tech, but still there. Big Tech is trying to override the First Amendment through censorship of non-liberal and non-leftist views. Big Pharma and their allies in the medical community use their influence in Congress, the Federal bureaucracy, and the state legislatures to shut down or at least limit alternative medicine.
By threatening the pharmaceutical cartel, Trump is attacking one of the pillars of the political order supported by Establishment Republicans and most Democrats, except perhaps Williamson and Hirono. Good for him!
The fun part is that it will help Canada’s economy while helping US citizens. The other thing is that Canada is basically the only other nation that has similar pharmacological safety regulations as the US - so unlike ordering meds from Europe or Asia, you won’t get bogus meds.
It will also force US drug prices down quite a lot. Probably helping out considerably more than the Democrat health plans ever could in their best fever dreams.
On top of that, a lot of those meds were made in the US, then shipped to Canada in the first place.
Why are drug prices in Canada much cheaper than they are in the USA?
What this will do is raise the price of drugs in Canada and lower them in the U.S. Other countries “negotiate” a significantly lower price for the drugs. The pills themselves don’t cost much to make; it is the R&D and FDA costs that they have to recuperate plus profit. The U.S. has foot the bill for most of these costs over the years. President Trump is working towards other countries paying their fair share for the drug’s R&D, etc.
They are cheaper there BECAUSE we do all of the work in research and development WE have to pay for all of that research and development!!!
In the case of Canada and several other countries we make the drug here, ship it to Canada, and then bring it back here to use. Have to watch out for countries like India, etc. that make crap for pills.
“Working on a plan on how we can import drugs safely and effectively from Canada so the American people get the benefit of the deals that pharma themselves are striking with other countries, “
Just get out of the damned way. There doesn’t need to be a “deal”.
“A lot of info came out recently that a lot of generic medications sold here in the US are made in China and many contain cancer causing chemicals and FDA is warning about them.”
And you cite the leftist liars at NBC to back up your statement? That’s funny as hell. Are you a comedy writer?
The number of Dems suddenly going cold turkey would freeze the Great Lakes on the spot.
yep
GOOD.
It’s crazy how it’s been.
It was in multiple news sources at the time, but this is where I could find it now.
If the Canadians are importing some of the drugs from China, there may be some truth in that. But, generally, they will be safe.
*************
Most of the precursors/ingredients are China sourced no matter where in the world the drugs are manufactured.
No, there wouldnt. The other governments basically only Allow monopoly patents if they adhere to certain rules such as reasonable markups.
No its not. Amazing free marketers lose all interest in the free market with Heathcare. The free market only works with many buyers and many sellers. Most drugs today are designed to TREAT issues not cure them because of our patent laws. And it still makes no sense to not allow importation of one industry (drugs) when we do for EVERYTHING else
It will have no effect on drug prices in canada
Yup
I can’t tell. My Chrome browser won’t let me click on Canadian pharmacy web-sites; it will provide access to an FDA webs-site that basically won’t show Canadian prices. Talk about government censorship implemented by private enterprise.
