Wikipedia on Thomas Jefferson: “Jefferson believed that slavery served to protect blacks, whom he viewed as inferior or incapable of taking care of themselves.”

Why have Blacks been so intent on proving Jefferson right by voting time after time for Black leaders like Elijah Cummings who are too inept and corrupt to be capable of taking care of them?

Jefferson would be branded today as a White Supremacist for his views, but who can argue that cities like Baltimore, Chicago, Detroit, etc., have not proven him prescient?

I read about two reasons that Black people vote Democrat en masse: (1) Barry Goldwater voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (not out of racism, but out of concern about its impositions on private businesses), and he was the 1964 GOP nominee for President; and (2) the Republicans used the “southern strategy” later on, which meant courting the White vote in the South; it worked in a number of Presidential contests.

The rift between most Blacks and the GOP — caused in part by the party nominating somebody who voted against the CRA and the party’s courting of the southern Whites who had recently oppressed some of them — appears to exist to this day.
