I honestly think of some of the stupid things I’ve done because my mind was on something else....but for the grace of God go I. His whole life has been destroyed!!!!
*************************************************
I’m with you in the “but for the grace of God go I” understanding. That family’s life has been devastated.

There's a guy on youtube named Doug DiMuro who reviews cars.He does many of them and he's quite good.Recently he reviewed one that had a feature where if you've opened the rear door before a trip it will ding as you leave the car, having reached your destination. He pointed out that it was a good idea. Can't recall the make of the car.

No. But there are plenty of households that are.

It's all a matter of what you're willing to sacrifice. Your comfort or your children.

Yup. He tends to review high end cars....very few Fords but lots of BMWs. I want to say it was a Volvo but I won’t swear to that.

I was thinking about something that takes the weight of the car when it has no one in it. That way the baby car empty car seat doesn’t set it off. Then weighs it when loaded, take the key out, then goes off to remind you not to leave your kids in the effing car.

Thank you.

I hate rear facing car-seats, but you have an even better point if one wants to go nuts over the 40 or so deaths like this that occur every year.

Most mandatory safety stuff has upsides and downsides. When people suffer from the downside, they are in effect paying an immense price for someone else’s immense benefit.

Stuff happens. Opting to take precautions against one thing opens one’s self up to vulnerabilities from other angles.

Most innovation starts out with high-end cars but they soon filter down to even economy models.

And then there are always ways to make the device an after-market product.

That would work too. Anything that would act as a switch.

Dollars to donuts they were buckled into rear facing car seats and looking into the rear view mirror one would see nothing.

"Yeah.. instead they got killed in car wrecks. Wonderful “solution”."

not sure I agree with that--back in the old days cars were made out of metal and were built like tanks.

trust me, it's got to be a nasty accident to get killed in one of these beasts.

Do you call around checking up on your husband for absolutely everything?

Does he call around checking up on you for absolutely everything?

If you are THAT forgetful, and have to transport babies in your car, the cheapest and simplest solution is to tie a dummy cord to you and the baby’s car seat. You won’t get far if you walk away and leave the baby behind, unless you detach yourself because that’s your plan all along.

I have read a lot of suggestions - esp. if you are not the one who usually takes the kids to Day Care. Leave your cell phone on the back seat, take off one shoe and leave that in the back seat, put a diaper or baby blanket under or on something you always take out of the car (purse, laptop, glasses case) You can also use Waze, which has a loud child in car reminder when you reach your destination. It seems inconceivable that someone would just forget the kids were in the car, but it does happen.

I don’t want to put this on the day care but I think it’s a common practice to call the parents if the child is absent without notice.
