The Daily Beast published a hit piece on baseball Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera, attacking the New York Yankees legend's "far-right politics." But the outspoken Christian told Fox News "that won't change my position, that won't change my belief."
Rivera, the greatest closer of all time, said his faith is "No. 1" in his life and he doubled down on his support for President Trump and the state of Israel.
"Mr. President Trump to me, he was a friend of mine before he became president," Rivera told "Fox & Friends" on Wednesday. "So, because he's president I will turn my back on him? No. I respect him. I respect what he does and I believe he's doing the best for the United States of America."

One guy who was friends with Trump before he became POTUS who has the character to stand by him now. Bravo, Mr. Rivera.
Hang in there, Mariano. The trolls will soon go away.
Mariano isn’t just a Hall of Famer in Baseball.
Big Mo! #YankeePride #Loyalty
First, not a Yankee fan. Mariano Rivera was the best reliever I’ve seen in my lifetime. Unfortunately, he brought in the era of a team having to use a ‘closer’ every game. The bad part is that 90% of them didn’t have a closer and sure as hell didn’t have Mariano Rivera! The idea of taking out a pitcher who isn’t struggling/having a great game to let someone come in and pitch one inning to get a close stat sucks and has lost hundreds of ball games. My theory is that the more pitchers you use per game, the more likely it is that one or more is going to be having a bad day.
It’s a copycat league, now teams try to emulate the Indians’ “closer by committee” approach.
Red Sox fan here giving respect to Rivera!
Great. Stand up Mariano and many will stand with you.
No he’s not just an HOFer. It was said that he is so popular in Panama that he could be elected president.
For years I assumed he was Dominican.
I’ve always loved this guy as a ball player but now I love him as a person.
You go Sandman.. We’ve got your back.
We just got back from vacation, which included a trip to Fenway. Almost made me a Red Sox fan, the way the fans get into the game. Such a great environment!
Texas Rangers will never be higher than third on the totem pole, behind the Cowboys and HS football. There is no identity for the Rangers, as much of the fandom are transplants with loyalties to other teams. You see it at every game.
We were lucky that the game we attended allowed kids to run the basepath after the game. It was a thrill for us to see our 8 YO grandson running on the same field where Ted Williams and other historic figures played.
Interesting that your theory is that coaches want to lose games...
Every franchise in the Southern part of the country is that way. Florida teams are the worst in that regard.
The Cowboys actually are an enigma. They have a huge nationwide following, and there are a lot of Cowboys fans attending every away game.
But when say, the Steelers come to play in Arlington, it’s very close to 50-50 split.
“Mariano isnt just a Hall of Famer in Baseball.”
And with his statement on Trump, he will probably be removed from the HoF.
A real man
When he did his "farewell tour" in his final season, he made it about everyone except himself. When he'd go to another ballpark for the last time, he'd ask to meet with ushers, secretaries, food service people, even opposing fans. And he sit and talk with them, thank them for everything they do and their passion for the game, etc.... I had no idea he was doing that until I read about it in our local paper in Cleveland.
Here's an article I found about his final season tour. Definitely worth a read to get a sense of him as a human being.
