Colorado State University has included the words “American” and “America” on its list of language to avoid because they are not inclusive.
The school’s Inclusive Communications Task Force compiled a list of words in its Inclusive Language Guide that serve to help those on campus foster “inclusion, respect, and social justice.”
The guide states that it is not about being politically correct but instead is there to help “communicators practice inclusive language” and make everyone on campus “feel welcomed, respected, and valued.”
CSU lists both “American” and “America” as non-inclusive words "to avoid," due to the fact that America encompasses more than just the U.S. By referring to the U.S. as America, the guide claims that one “erases other cultures and depicts the United States as the dominant American country.” The school suggests using “U.S. citizen” or “person from the U.S.” as substitutes. (Campus Reform)
Among other words on the list are normal person, straight, gendered words, hip hip hooray, hold down the fort, war, starving, etc.
The guide does note, however, that the recommendations are not official policy.
"[E]ven though these guidelines are suggested and not mandatory, they place students in the uncomfortable position of reciting politically correct talking points that they may not agree with,” Nicole Neily, president of Speech First, told Campus Reform. “Words like 'American,' 'male,' and 'female' are used every day by billions of people around the world. When these students graduate, they're in for a rude awakening!"
The guide represents a growing trend in some parts of the country. As Tim reported Thursday, the city of Berkeley unanimously voted to change all official city documents so there are no gendered words.
“Colorado State University” - three words to avoid for anyone with half a brain.
The U.S. is the only country that has the word “America” in it’s official name.
Sorry. It’s “its,” not “it’s.”
Okay, no more African American...ect.
Seems than they had someone who remembered we have a First Amendment in America.
My grandfather, a 1st generation American served n WWI - on the line
Dad and Uncle served in WWI and Korea conflict. Uncle Ed (RIP)had 2 PH for wounds received on the battlefield.
I served in the AF for 23 years - from the end of Vietnam (72) thru and past GW1 (94)
My son pulled two tours in Irag as a USMC door kicker
I’ll say what I want and live with the fallout. Eff a bunch of college snowflakes and just plain flakes.

Well of course. Destroying America is a major goal of the Democratic Party these days. That’s why they voted for the Lying Kenyan in 2008 and 2012.
sorry - Dad and Uncle served in WWII and RoK.
Does this mean Native Americans can’t say that anymore?
These fools are sickening.
They should be cut of from any American money.
It has been going on for some time, but schools no longer teach “American” history. It is now called “United States” history, because the attempt is to erase the memory of our “American” identity.
Can their charter be revoked?
I have been unable to find any link to a CSU website confirming the ‘not-to-be-spoken’ words.
This report along with other reports link to:
The Rocky Mountain Collegian states on their website:
“This publication is not an official publication of Colorado State University, but is published by an independent corporation using the name The Rocky Mountain Collegian pursuant to a license granted by CSU. Visit collegian.com/corporate for more information.”
While I do not doubt CSU administration is crazy enough to ban “America”, I would be good to see on an official CSU website the list of ‘bad’ words not to be spoken on campus.
The school suggests using U.S. citizen or person from the U.S. as substitutes.
Id suggest the term person of U.S..
Exactly. The population of no other country in this hemisphere has ever been referred to as Americans going back before there was a United States of America. What else are we to be called? Unitedans? Statians? Seriously, Leftist college admins and profs are STUPID despite their degrees. The real problem is that nobody pushes back against such crap.
A friend of mine is Athletic Directer at CSU. I’m sure he thinks this is ridiculous.
These people are commie scum
CSU needs to revoke the publication license or the state of Colorado should revoke all university funding (and the Feds should ban any federal aid as well).
Enough is enough!
