Full title: Pak wasn't searching for Hafiz Saeed, he was living freely: US committee counters Donald Trump's tweet

The legislative committee highlighted that Pakistan was not searching for the 26/11 terror attack mastermind for 10 years -- as claimed by Trump. Hafiz was living freely in the country, they added.

The House Foreign Affairs Committee on Wednesday countered US President Donald Trump's tweet on UN-proscribed terrorist Hafiz Saeed.

The legislative committee highlighted that Pakistan was not searching for the 26/11 terror attack mastermind for 10 years -- as claimed by Trump. Hafiz Saeed was living freely in the country, they added.

"FYI Pakistan wasn't searching for him for 10 years. He's been living freely and was arrested and released in December 2001, May 2002, October 2002, August 2006 (twice), December 2008, September 2009, January 2017. Let's hold the (applause) until he's convicted," the committee tweeted.

Saeed was arrested on Wednesday while he was on his way to an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Gujranwala to seek bail.

Reacting to the development, Trump tweeted, "After a ten-year search, the so-called "mastermind" of the Mumbai terror attacks has been arrested in Pakistan. Great pressure has been exerted over the last two years to find him!"

Tweet: https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1151495794295525378?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1151495794295525378&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dnaindia.com%2Findia%2Freport-pak-wasn-t-searching-for-hafiz-saeed-he-was-living-freely-us-committee-counters-donald-trump-s-tweet-2773170

The Jama'at-ud-Da'wah's (JuD) chief's arrest came just two days after an anti-terrorism court in Lahore had granted three of his aides and him an interim bail until August 31 against surety bonds of PKR 50,000 each.

On July 3, the banned terror outfit's top 13 leaders -- including Saeed and Naib Emir Abdul Rehman Makki -- were booked in Pakistan in nearly two dozen cases for terror financing and money laundering under the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.

It is believed that Pakistan has taken the steps in the wake of the upcoming meeting between Trump and Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan in Washington and the possibility of being blacklisted by the Paris-based anti-money laundering watchdog, Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

Osama Bin Laden was living freely in Pakistan also. That says a lot about Pakistan.

Somebody gave Pres. Trump incorrect information.

That is not Trump’s fault.

You mean through the entire Obama administration a terrorist was roaming free and Obama did nothing?

And Laden was only a mile from military intelligence facilities.

No,during Obama’s admin. they were making plans which eventually resulted in his capture and death. My question is how/why were the maps for the Tora Bora caves the CIA had made lost? Did Bush/Cheney want to prolong the war and make money on military expenses? Shades of Ike’s “Beware the Military/Industrial Complex.”

This is not about bad info, it is about giving the Pakistani’s diplomatic cover. We know they have been protecting this guy the whole time, just like they did with Bin Laden. Something else is going on in the background and they have decided that giving him up because it is better than whatever President Trump told them would happen if they didn’t. They saw that the Iranian leader’s were personally sanctioned. The amount of money the Pakistan leadership has squirreled away in Swiss bank counts while they bleed their country dry is what they want to keep. We know where every one of these high profile targets are, we just have to tread diplomatically in most cases, and we’ve finally got a President who understands that the only thing these people understand is their own financial self interest and is turning that into a weapon against them.

And Laden was only a mile from military intelligence facilities.

He was living under the active protection of Pak intelligence, it seems.

Duh. A fugitive is always living freely until he is caught.

Funny how some people take seriously what others intend to be sarcastic, hyperbole or some other figure of speech.

I understand when I am sarcastic here on FR and Freepers can’t hear my tone of voice. But isn’t Trump’s tone of voice perpetually set to jerk the chain of SJWs?

Of course Pakistan was searching for him, that’s why they had all those Pakistani experts working with the Democrats in congress and logging on to the congressional database while on fact finding trips to Pakistan. /s

So did the Obama admin ever get back the doctor who led us to OBL or did they leave him in Pock-ee-stan so he could never tell his side of the story?

I remember that was an issue at the time. I don’t know how it turned out. You can Google as easily as I can. It’s 3 am and I’m taking my 81 year old bones to bed.
