Neither is going to happen.

Making them a state is a no go because if it adds Republican seats, the Democrats will vote against it and vice versa.

Cutting them loose is a no go because there is no mechanism in place to revoke the citizenship of 3.5 million people. Would the Puerto Ricans living on the mainland be forced to return to the island? Will their citizenship be revoked as well? What about the Puerto Ricans who do not want to be part of an independent nation, will they be allowed to go to the mainland.

It’s a nice line to say, but it ain’t happening. At least in my opinion.

Totally impractical. Unless there is a Republican territory out there somewhere, and they can be paired like Alaska and Hawaii were. Which I see nowhere.
