Wiki re Operation Cyclone: “U.S. government officials and a number of other parties {including yours truly} maintain that the U.S. supported only the indigenous Afghan mujahideen. They deny that the CIA or other American officials had contact with Bin Laden and Al Qaeda, let alone armed, trained, coached or indoctrinated them. Many American scholars and reporters[who?] have called the idea of a CIA-backed Al Qaeda “nonsense”,[10] “sheer fantasy”,[11] and “simply a folk myth.”[12]
Nothing the CIA says can be believed, not even under oath to Congress - if Brennan’s blatant lies under oath and the total lack of penalty or protest or even expression of surprise from anyone there are anything to go by. Obviously blatant lies from the CIA Director to Congress have become so routine that nobody even bats an eye.
Any and all exculpatory evidence needs to come from a reliable and unconflicted third party. That’s not totally fair, but it’s the necessary consequence of them having earned a reputation for uttering contemptuous falsehoods.
