I signed up for that 2 years ago. It is useful to see what’s coming, I like it.

“It’s not done to help YOU. It’s done to help THEM SNOOP ON YOU.”

The post office has had automated letter sorting equipment for decades and those machines use optical character recognition.

That OCR software by its nature acquires images of letters as it sorts them. Their Informed Delivery service is allowing us to see the images that their sorting machinery generates.

Yes it has had sorting equipment. But sorting something is different than copying the sort and archiving it. Which is also what they have been doing for a long time.

So YOU are the person who gets letters! It’s been years since a letter has been in my box.

(I know, you have to write them to get them.)

I cannot imagine the amount of memory needed to store all of those images not to mention more of the it and other infrastructures having to hire that many people all at our expense. Why would I want to see junk mail images before they arrived knowing they’re going to arrive anyway. Good grief.

I do these projects online evaluating new or redesigned websites.

One was a facial recognition website.

It listed all the ways it would be used.

VERY chilling.

We use it. It lets us know of our mail is being stolen out of the mailbox.

I’m sorry, I don’t know what that is.

Maybe I should.

I check each piece of junk mail; lately, they’ve included 55 cents in stamps, 1 dollar (sometimes 2 dollar) bills and 50 cent pieces. I’ve shown my neighbors stacks of what they may have been throwing out!

I’d like a button to click to tell them to just dump most of that s#it into the recycling bin rather than the mailbox.

Not so new...I’ve been using it for a while now. It is kind of cool. Eliminates the “did I not get mail or did the mail person just not show up” question.

You must not have watched many spy movies.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A dead drop or dead letter box is a method of espionage tradecraft used to pass items or information between two individuals (e.g., a case officer and an agent, or two agents) using a secret location, thus not requiring them to meet directly and thereby maintaining operational security. The method stands in contrast to the live drop, so-called because two persons meet to exchange items or information.

I’ve used this service since its inception, I find it really useful.

If I see something important I know to look for it in the next day or two.If I don’t get it, I know something’s gone awry.

Why do I need to see my bills before they arrive in my mail box??

I have to smirk when I see people rushing to their mail boxes. Why? It is mostly either junk mail or bills.

I have strict instructions to all my brokers to NOT send me anything important through US Mail. It must be strictly on-line. As often as I get neighbor’s mail and they receive mine, why would anyone want important information sent on paper through mail?
