Watched a documentary about his flight. Late planning, and ill advised. Bad flight path. Communication problems. It was quite a few years ago and I can’t remember many of the specifics but he really seemed to be a little to casual and cavalier about procedures and the dangers
And he wasn’t IFR rated.
Reckless. I think his wife was running late. Weather turned. It’s a shame he took down an innocent victim (the sister).
He wasn’t “instrument qualified”. Not even close.

By flying anyway, he committed suicide and murder.
VFR pilot flying in IMC. It’s one thing flying solo, but he took his wife and sister-in-law down with his pride.
