My problem with the AR for home defense is pass through capability with the ammo. A shotgun and buckshot to me is safer for the innocent neighbors. You can doll a shotgun up as well as an AR. The squirrels may have known the old man had one and more. Glad he got the job done. We all have our druthers.

I’ll go with that except the green tips. Over-penetration in a residential environment is... not good. The shooter needs to be shooting up or shooting down at his attackers to avoid collateral victims. Good for shooting thru walls though so it would probably win the home invasion challenge.

Get rid of that ****** ammo. Use some quality soft points in 62 grain or heavier, preferably over 70 grains if your rifle will stabilize it. The only thing green tip is good for is reusing the brass to put a proper self defense bullet in it.
