Trump tells confidants he's eager to remove Dan Coats

President Trump has told confidants he's eager to remove Dan Coats as director of national intelligence, according to five sources who have discussed the matter directly with the president.

The state of play: Trump hasn't told our sources when he plans to make a move, but they say his discussions on the topic have been occurring for months — often unprompted — and the president has mentioned potential replacements since at least February. A source who spoke to Trump about Coats a week ago said the president gave them the impression that the move would happen "sooner rather than later."

The director of national intelligence serves as an overseer of the U.S. intelligence community and a close adviser to the president and National Security Council, producing each day's top-secret Presidential Daily Brief. A source with direct knowledge told me that Trump has privately said he thinks the Office of the Director of National Intelligence represents an unnecessary bureaucratic layer and that he would like to get rid of it. He has been told that eliminating the ODNI is not politically possible, but still would like to "downsize" the office, the source said.

A government source who has discussed the matter with Trump characterized the president's thinking this way: "It's time for a change. Dan's a great guy but the president doesn't listen to him anymore." A White House official responded: "We have no personnel announcements at this time."

Coats is not a team player. I’ve seen him unsupportive of Trump too many times on Sunday talk shows. Trump doesn’t need yes-men, but they need to be united in public when decisions are made.

According to Sundance, Coats is yet another Trump back-stabber.

Amazing how many of these are embedded into the Trump administration, even after 2.5 years. The TSA chief is another one.

Coats is a Bush League Republican and should not have been appointed.

Dan Coats doesn’t seem to understand that undermining his boss in public does neither of them any favors.

Coats is a former US Senator. Take that for what it’s worth. A lot. What did POTUS expect hiring a useless Senator?

I’ll not comment on DNI Coates’ performance, though I supported him with my vote for to be Indiana’s senator; however, I have felt that the entire Director of National Intelligence organization should never have been created as, IMO, it added another layer of bureaucracy to the intel organizations. I’m speaking as an old Army intel guy.

Coats now heads the spy agency Dirty John Clapper once led and used to subvert the 2016 American election, a duly elected President's transition and God knows what other dirty anti-American missions Obama gave him.

Coats saw all the skeletons Dirty Clapper left behind and the fact that he has declassified nothing tells us all we need to know about that Bush mole.

Useless swamp creature. He was placed as another appeasement move to placate the GOPe. They were sprinkled throughout the administration and have done as much damage as the rats.

The GOP is hopeless..

What person would be like Trump in draining the swamp ???

I’m afraid Trump is just a bump in the road...like Reagan
